The Mexico Solution

Mel's proposed assimilation of Mexico

While I find this plan, as presented, emotionally disturbing, I remember wondering as a kid, why is it that Mexico, the United States, and Canada are not all one country? It makes complete sense geographically. This would make the "United States of North America" the richest country on earth in many ways. The diversity of cultures, natural resources, and even races would make for a synergistically blessed country.
The big trouble with the plan is simply how do we get from here to there? There's a whole range of possibilities from a violent war all the way to the introduction of modest and time consuming stimuli bringing about the mutual appreciation for all that everyone concerned would bring to the table, thus paving the way for this unification willingly by all. I vote for the later end of this spectrum. And I'll even offer a starting place. It's as simple as it is powerful. It will take a long time but then many worthwhile things do. I don't claim this idea as my own but it applies here. I'll happily share just who's idea this is to anyone who wants to know.
As we each go about our day following our own individual passions and interests, smile more than we do now at those we meet each and every day. Combine this with a commitment to having children only if we will truly love them. All things good and wise will spring forth from these two simple intentions over time. The world has taken a long time to get the way it is and it will take a long time to become fundamentally better.
These two simple acts, albeit not always easy to do, will in fact bring about harmony among people over time. This idea is interesting but not one to be brought about by a quick fix approach aka, war. This idea brought about by mutual kindness and wisdom and appreciation would bring with it people possessing the wisdom & compassion necessary to sustain it.
