Interesting...

This is a really good point and I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention something like this before. If all the public hears about the president and Republicans comes from the mainstream media, then either the media is completely unbiased and Bush is really doing that terrible, or they slant the news to the left.

you're right

Seeing what you want to see as opposed to what is there is a common experience.

A really lonely person sees Mr. or Mrs. right even though all of their friends are waving red flags. A young man goes over his budget again and again and "finds" that he has enough for a Mustang payment on an 8.00 an hour, part time job.

This "wooden beam in your own eye" concept was most clearly illuminated by Jesus. Interpreting scripture, or anything else, with a beam in your eye, grotesquely distorts the inherent truth therein.

Liberation Theology, "Living Document" constitutional interpretation, intelligence estimates, economic studies, history, etc., etc. are all born of this phenomena.
