Comment on: Plenty of Slaps to Go Around

Demonizing Muslims is the last thing a Christian should do

You have to be kidding...

In case you haven't noticed, some of those poor Muslims attacked us on 9/11 and killed 3000 people. Yes there are other problems to worry about, but to ignore a mortal enemy is lunacy. As far as "demonizing" them, in truth we have gone out of our way to do just the opposite, and this may be a mistake which has allowed people like you to live in a fairy tale world safe from the danger now confronting us. My God, how can someone be so blind to reality???

JD, there is another way

You're completely missing the point, JD.

You can't carry anger and hate around with you, especially if you claim to be a Christian. If you hold onto your anger, how is Christ's love supposed to shine through in any and all situations? It can't. John the Baptist put it best when he said, "I must decrease so He can increase". He was saying our personality must be willing to take a back seat while Jesus does the driving; tt's part of the process of "dying to self". If you can't do that, you can't put off the "old man".

Jesus also talked about forgiveness - not under specific or arranged circumstances, but across the board. If you claim to be a Christian, then you must forgive. John's epistles said you cannot say you love God and hate your brother, or else you're a liar. If you don't forgive others, God has no reason to grant you forgiveness, which is the best reason I can argue you need to let go and give it to God.

You can approach life from the perspective of walking softly and carrying a big stick and whacking everyone you deem an "enemy", or you can trust in God to make it all work out - especially if it's not to your liking.

I choose to reach out to those you'd prefer to demonize. "But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you..."

It's not fun looking for a terrorist behind every tree and under every rock - you become paranoid. If you say you want someone dead because you feel they're a threat, what "spirit" is talking to you? Killing is not a Christian spirit.

In case you haven't read today's news, the US is the number one seller of arms in the world (45%) to developing nations. Maybe we should rethink our culture of war instead of bombing everyone else into the dust. We've got our own house cleaning here do to before we point out the dust bunnines in everyone elses' corners.
