Boycott Hugh Hewitt's book on Romney

I've Tested the Limits

While they won't throw you off, I am not thrilled about your post, and I AM NOT Morman. I know you feel strongly about your religion, but so do they.

An interesting story about my father and his attitude toward Catholics. Shortly after WWII, he attended a wedding where the Catholics were seated on one side of the church and the Protestants on the other. My father was Presbyterian. For about 30 uncomfortable minutes he had to endure the Priest's self assured conviction that my father and those on his side of the church were going to Hell. For the rest of his life, he only attended one Catholic Wedding.

If you think that was offensive, and it was, read your post again.

Un-Christian

That post is so full of malice it makes my stomach sour to think this person calls him/herself Christian. Christians should not be hateful, manipulative, and condemning. If he/she was full of the spirit of Christ he/she would bear the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (Gal 5:22).
I'm particularly appalled by the condemnation of the mormon apostle. Judgement is the Lord's, and He will dispense justice. It is not our place to assume His authority. Rather we should follow His example. You may recall when the Pharisees brought the adultress to Jesus and asked what should be done with her He stated "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." When they all had left He asked "Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?" She replied no and He responded "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." What a perfect example of effective persuasion, and forgiveness by the Master! He is the ONLY one with the right to condemn her, but He recognizes her capacity to change and sets a sublime example for us all - unconditional love.
If you want to persuade others unto rightousness do it with love unfeigned, patience, and perseverence. It is more powerful and effective than all the hate, and wrath-filled words in all the world. I believe that to be the true christian way. This does not mean you should in anyway be complacent, accomadating or embracing towards evil. I just believe the person who posted this article is going about it the wrong way. The writer does not have any apparent Christ-like love for Mr. Hewitt or the mormon apostle. Rather he/she seems to have pleasure in stating the fact that the mormon is now in hell. If I felt someone's life or rejection of truth merited their placement in hell I would mourn the loss of their soul. No doubt they would have been an evil person, but still their spirit is precious to the Savior, and He also mourns their loss.
I believe the writer does strongly believe in Christ. My hope is that if he/she reads my response, he/she she will reconsider using such rhetoric, and replace it with more Christ-like words of compassion and persuasion. It is possible to do it thusly, while still being very persuasive, and letting others know where you firmly stand.
You cannot promote good causes through pernicious means. That would truly be un-christian.

Hugh Hewitt / Romney

I agree with the writer suggesting the boycott and all that was said about Mormonism. I don't have malice for Hewitt, I just feel sorry for him that he has been deceived like so many others in accepting Mormonism as something it is not. What a reflection of the end times, when many will be deceived by those pretending(knowingly or not) to be something they are not - in sheeps clothing.
So many people want to only emphasize Christianity being about unconditional acceptance of everyone's beliefs - but Jesus taught speaking the truth in love, even when it hurts. Mormons, and those they have captivated, also need to hear the truth spoken in love - and Christians need to be educated on those teachings of the Mormon church that divorce itself from Christianity.

Truth

" Jesus taught speaking the truth in love, even when it hurts."

Amen.

Now, let's discuss the common practice of presenting off-the-reservation comments by early Mormon leaders as the definitive doctrine of the modern Mormon Church, and consider whether that practice constitutes fidelity to truth.

You guys will doubtless succeed in making Mormonism look goofy, which is only slightly harder than shooting fish in a barrel. But you will also reveal your own colors to a country that is increasingly tired of you, and accelerate your exile to the political wilderness.

Hugh Hewitt / Romney

I feel sorry for you. I'm disappointed that a self-proclaimed Christian could be so malicious and full of hate for Mitt Romney, Hugh Hewitt, and Mormons in general. I agree with everything Matthew L stated above, so I don't feel I need to add anything to that since he did such a wonderful job.

But, as a Mormon, I'd just like you to know, that I will call the temple today and ask them to say a prayer for you that your heart may be softened.

You say that Neal A. Maxwell is in hell. Funny, I've read many great talks and articles written by Neil A. Maxwell. The subject of nearly all of those talks, was Jesus Christ. If you combined all of the discourses, letters, books, and articles of Neal A. Maxwell, there wouldn't be as much vitriol altogether as there is in this single blog of yours.

I would be especially careful to condemn Neal A. Maxwell to hell. You presume to know his fate based on what? That he's a liar and a deceiver? Because he lacked proper faith? Even if that is so, what about works? Clearly Neal A. Maxwell, even if he lived ignorantly, lived a Christ-like life.

For that, he might merit forgiveness, don't you think?

James 2:24 "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only."

Perhaps you should look within and try and become more Christ-like. Maybe then you may be able to judge others so clearly. This blog and its content are not Christ-like at all. In fact, quite the contrary.

Good day

Interesting

So called "Christian" leaders like Jim Baker and Jerry Falwell are caught with their pants (literally) down and yet their sheep follow aimlessly behind them - continuing on. You don't find that sort of failure among Mormon leadership, Neal Maxwell included. Mormom leaders are married for life, have strong families, contribute immensly to God and country - yet there are those (such as on this blog) that try to peel an edge, exploit a seem, anything to show some percieved evil brewing beneath the surface - sheesh. If Hell is full of Neal A Maxwells, save me a hot seat brother.

LIes

It saddens me that such ignorance is rampant. Anyone who knows Elder Neal Maxwell would realize what a meek, humble, follower of Christ he was. The Savior said, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, that ye have love, one towards another". I would challenge anyone to find a more Christ-like, meek, humble man than Neal Maxwell. The blogger clearer does not know the Christ.

And further, i am always intrigued by the fomenting of so called christian people when they learn the Mormon doctrine of the afterlife? What exactly do you think you will be doing after the resurrection? Everything in this life testifies that we grow up like our parents. The scriptures are repleat with commandments to be perfect, and be perfect as our Father who is in Heaven is perfect (Matt 5:48 for one). If He truly loves us - does he not want the most and best for His children? It is as natural as the sun rising in the morning. Yet this, and many other bloggers foment and gnash their teeth.

I maintain that this so-called christian has no idea who he worships, what he worships, and what the purpose of their great creator has for his eternal destiny. People take shots at the LDS Church - but they have a story - a full fabric, but all's i hear from people like this is bitterness, jealousy, and malice. Anyone with eyes to see will be able to see and discern.

So frothed with hatred it's almost funny

A fascinating diatribe you've written. I can imagine the spittle all over your computer monitor. You lace your essay with so many insults and accusations I'm not sure I have the time to counter each item, or the inclination. Others above me have done a fine job doing that, so I'll leave it to them.

Do you realize how you are coming across to others? Just keep it up. You're doing the Mormons' work for them.

Above you quoted the Bible: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven."

Pot. Meet Kettle.
