BAN THOSE HORRIBLE BOOKS!

Boook Banning

Thanks for leaving a comment on my site. I can't believe they are banning these books. One of my grandkids is reading Tom Sawyer and Huckelberry Finn is next. I suppose next we'll have to ban American History because it's racist. Add to that the fact that Mississippi has decided not to include fractions and decimals in their curriculum and what's left to teach. How anyone can function without the use of fractions is beyond me. How does one sew, cook build things or take any kind of measurement. Reading's out and 'rithmetic's out, I guess writing is next.

Fractious Fractions and Book-Burning

Thanks for your reply. It's always nice to know there's someone who reads what you've written. Otherwise it feels as though one is writing in a vacuum.

I had seen that news about banning fractions; I agree with you that it leaves children shortchanged. Indeed, how does one cook or measure a 2x4? Will all those dreary chores be done by a computer or robot?

If a computer or robot performs these tasks, who will be left to design computer programs? Oh, I know, people from (or in) other countries. Scary thought, isn't it?

Back to one of the banned books: how many people do you suppose remember that Little Red Riding Hood was taking wine to her grandmother? Not me. I remembered only that she was taking something to her under-the-weater grandmother -- a worthy undertaking, I thought. Besides, "take a little wine for thy stomach's sake." (Can't remember chapter or verse for that one.)

Keep giving your grandchildren ideas for reading. It is truly an enriching experience -- lasting a lifetime.

Fractions and Book Burning

Yep, it's scary alright.

Finally got to your site. Thanks for sticking up for good literature and those things that mean "American."

Vote

I have already voted by absentee ballot. I'm feeling very vertuous.
