Montana Could Be Lost

Who cares????

;-) I mean, losing Big Sky (the ski resort) would be a BIG loss, but it's cold as H E double hockey sticks up there anyWAY.

Something we agree on, Stan

I'm not a big fan of the cold weather.

Interesting

I find it very interesting how often the topic of secession comes up on this site in various places, especially the comments on the main columns.

I'm of the opinion secession's not possible. The Constitution spells out the mechanism for achieving statehood, but none for seceding or withdrawing. Like the Mafia, once in, never out.

Brian

As we discovered here in Virginia during the "recent unpleasantness". The question of whether the union was a voluntary one was answered, and the answer was NO, by force of arms. Of Course, I'm not sure there are any Lincolns in Washington these days, but I agree, once in......

Hahahaha, Sarge!

"Recent unpleasantness".

That's a hoot, man.

It's gospel

It's what my Great Aunt Ruby, a genteel southern lady, used to call the WBTS.

Montana Does Not Exist

Many years ago, a major newspaper (forget which one) ran an April Fools Day story that Montana did not actually exist, but was "created" to hide the fact that the United States was actually at war with Canada.

I firmly believe that the April Fools Day publishing date was simply a coincidence, and the story is true! Think about it!

PDX Dave

I guess somebody needs to tell my relatives in Kalispell. HaHa!

It Would Be Interesting

If Montana seceded from the Union. What would the federal governmnet do? I doubt they would ride in cavalry style to force the state back.

The state would start out expelling all federal agencies from Montana.
Then they would close off Montana from all military bases. Kinda like Gitmo is closed off from Cuba.
Hmmm. What part of Montana's Gross annual income stems from feds?

Too bad Texas lost its Articles of Annexation when itlost the Civil War. Or it could divide itself into five separate states and ALL of them secede....

Sgt Relic

What I can't figure out is how they fooled ME all those years living in Missoula! Are all those late night swilling Raineer beer at Luke's Bar all implanted memories?

Never underestimate the power of "them!"

Or is it "they?" Andrew..... grammatical help here please....

{cue spooky music}

Dont Stake Your Life On It Sarge

” Indeed. Our advice to the Supreme Court is that before they upset somebody with their ruling, they might want to consider which side has the guns.”

Do you think the left wouldnt use the military just because they were against attacking Respected House Member Bob McDermott's pal in Iraq? Nothing would make the Disarmacrats happier than to make a Chechnya-style sweep through the Big Sky Country. They could even emulate St Mikhail The Wonderful (Gorby) and drop exploding toys to blow the trigger-fingers off the hands of potential little gun-criminals. 'Our New Happy Life' is a slogan of Ingsoc; I'm waiting for Obama or Hillary to pick up on it. If any Dem is elected I'll bet our living Constitution will be discovered to contain a strict ban on individual gun ownership.

Left anti-military? Quite the opposite

The left is only anti-military in the event that it harms the capitalist nation of America.... which at present is pretty much always.

However.....

If the left get their way and "improves" America by making it a socialist nation, then their loathing of all things military will instantly vanish.

Has any far left regime EVER eschewed aggressive use of their military? Does the left cry foul as their pet leftist dictators worldwide field their militaries in threatening and imperialistic ways? Never.

The instant the military is a tool of the new socialist state, it will be enthusiastically embraced AND FREQUENTLY USED by the left in power.

Buck

With a population around 1 million I don't if MT can even man their border. The feds might find it easier to let them go and make up the difference by sending the border patrol on vacation for a couple of weeks.

PDX Dave

As I recall "Them" were giant mutant ants. Do you recall any gigantic insects?

Sgt Relic's Giant Insects

That would be giant Alaskan mosquitos I think. The variety that can carry off a grown man, or so the tale is told, and it is Gospel I think.

The only giant insect I associate with Montana is Max Baucus.

Skep

Finally, a war democrats can get behind. That living constitution will will very likely have a previously undiscovered president for life clause.

PDX Dave

The left doesn't mind using the military they just like having it win. I suppose the People's Army of America might be expected to win. Baucus is a lot scarier than mere giant insects.

Doesnt It?

Surely you would support something so Pro Life as a Life Term for The Friend Of The Children? If Clinton III should be forced, deeply against their will, to suspend the messy and expensive 'democratic process' during a Global Warming Emergency I trust that they would be good stewards of the nation and re institute democracy at the earliest possible opportunity as soon as the climate stabilizes.

There has been a secession recently

and as far as I'm concerned, it's valid. There is this Indian tribe (with a valid claim of being here first) which as declared it's treaties with the USA null and void because the USA has broken the terms of the treaties. Some parts of like 4 States are no longer part of the USA, IMHO.

Skep

Too true, it is after all for the children.

Stan

Tribes have been making this argument for a long time. In recent years it has had more to do with casino revenue then any real desire to hunt buffalo but I take your point. As I pointed out to Brian, here in Virginia we didn't do too well with it a while back but sovereignty used to be a much bigger deal in Washington than it is now. The borders are still open aren't they?

Sarge

Could Obama fill Lincoln's shoes??? Hardy har har har.

Dcat

Well he is from Illinois. LOL!

Montana

could be it's own country...LOL

Sarge

> The borders are still open aren't they?

The Indians did always have a poor immigration policy.

Sheila

Based on the relatives I have there, I'm not so sure that they aren't their own country already.

Stan

Precisely! You would think that we would learn a lesson from their poor example.

Personally I Support Montana!

And the "Late Unpleasantness" aside, if you secede and win; then your success is the final answer to whether or not secession is legal or not. (On this point I disagree with BrianR.)

If Montana does secede, then maybe Mississippi will be the first to follow her example (just like in the "Late Unpleasantness" when Mississippi was the second state to secede after SC).

What I am seeing about SCOTUS's actions so far in this case (Hellor vs DC) are too vague. Maybe I have become "jaded" by years of Liberal PC "jargon"; but I am not wild about what I am hearing.

Gray Ghost

You are correct, the legality is in the winning. I am not particularly thrilled that this issue is before the court. Justice Kennedy can be a "loose cannon" (I hope you can forgive the pun) and he has been known to bring international law into decisions. He is swing vote but I wouldn't count him as a sure bet.

Sarge

It's the only right-wing extremist talking point that I've ever agreed with (on any subject. Oh there might be another exception that I'm forgetting about at the moment.)

Unfortunately for the right-wing, it's used as a "straw man". You see, the Mexicans aren't coming over here for the perposes of genocide. They're just looking for work.

Stan

You have really got to get some new material. It's starting to look like you find a straw man in statement. Here is a classic example:

"the Mexicans aren't coming over here for the perposes of genocide. They're just looking for work."[sic]

A straw man argument is defined as "Presenting a misrepresentation of the opponent's position and then refuting it, thus giving the appearance that the opponent's actual position has been refuted."

I never mentioned Mexicans or attributed any particular reason for Mexicans being in the country. I would include your usual "attack the [insert here] statement but to be honest I have no idea what your talking about. I thought the piece was about Montana?

Have Gun,

will travel. I am looking for a decent place in Montana to set up shop. Anyone have any friends that can help me out with this?

Apollyon67

I have relatives in Kalispell MT. Big raw boned frontier types, very scary. I have never met any of the men though. HaHa!

Sarge

> [SNIP: Sarge's whining about my using a word in the English language ("straw man")] I never mentioned Mexicans or attributed any particular reason for Mexicans being in the country.

Sure you did IMHO, my friend. You did it tacitly (implied.)

Stan

Let me see if I remember how this goes.

Stan - Your projecting.

Is that about right? If you read minds to you do card tricks too?

Sarge

Sarge, what is it about IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) that you don't understand? ;-)
