Some people!!

Ha! I guess I join you on this one...I cannot stand wrong pronunciation! I have one that I constantly mispronounce-statute. I want an extra a in there...

Nee

I think everyone has a few words they mispronounce, but this one became so common it started to drive me mad. My wife read this and said "You know, I thought I was pronouncing it wrong when I kept hearing everyone pronounce it 'cachet'."

It reminds me of the 1980's when the newscasters wanted to sound "authentic" and tried to roll the Rs in Nicaragua. They sounded hilarious. I would watch the national news just to hear who could make the most ludicrous pronunciation of "Neeeeecarrrrrrrrrahhhh-GWAH", or which news caster would sound most like Speedy Gonzales when trying to mention "Dah-Nee-el ORRRRRRRR-tay-GAH". (All these "authentic" pronunciations never appeared to know which syllable to accent, either. But considering that they seemed most intent on making the Rs into about 80% of the word, that isn't surprising. They sounded more like Charo than anything else.)

It was a riot. Unfortunately, the "cachet" thing wasn't nearly as amusing, just annoying.
