food for thought. There are so many today that just think they know everything, only to find out they know very little. The Bible will always be true. Now and forever!

No, nothing got under my skin. You can make jokes about the Bible as much as you like. It's not like the stories in there are real.

Look, if you hate Christianity so much, why discredit it? Are you afraid of the truth written or did you have a bad childhood?

I understand that it's hard for many to believe in what the good book says, regardless of background. We have so much going on in this world and people often use God as a scapegoat or as an enemy. We've all had hard times and will always. I think of it this way, God will use the most unlikely people in certain situations, regardless of their knowledge, or their ability to comprehend certain signs given. Happens all the time in the bible.
Jesus is the most widely known man ever to exist, and to have so many witnesses see his miracles is indeed a blessing, for his disciples as well as those who pick up the bible.
If you're an atheist, why go through all the trouble commenting on blogs concerning religion? Why worry at all?

I'm not sure if this is the case here, but I have been known to quote Luis Bunuel, who said: "Thank God I'm an atheist."

I addressed this on Jan's blog. If people walked around talking about how great fairies were all the time, thanking fairies, praising fairies, etc., etc., wouldn't you want to respond and say: Enough with all the fairy talk! They don't exist!

What fairies? I don't worship fairies, maybe your confused Christianity with druidism.
If you found fairies in the bible, specify with the very verse that you make these claims, otherwise, pick a better argument.

Dude, I'm not saying there are fairies in the Bible. I'm drawing an analogy here. Can you open your mind a moment to get that?

Ok, but the people in the bible weren't made up. Many people all over the world have studied intensely, as my father has, into the bible and everything surrounding it's contents. My father is an extremely intelligent man very well read. He would tell me any wrongs therein.
It's a hard thing to accept until you feel God's presence, especially accepting Jesus Christ's words. They are truly amazing.

Most of the people I know (including Democrats) believe in a god and don't disparage religion. I'm an atheist, however.
Many of the people in the Bible did exist in history. I've read an archaelogical analysis of the Bible, and it's interesting to find that the places described did indeed exist.
Significantly, it seems clear that there was a tribal leader named Abraham or Abram who is either himself or through his offspring the genesis of the major religions of the Middle East, and subsequently the Western World.
There appears to truly have been a man named Yeshua ("Jesus" in Greek) whose adherence to the strict tenets of Judaism angered the Pharisees and Roman leaders.
But the facts of the Bible are surrounded by fairy tales and exaggerations that make it useful to me only as a literary work (a boring one, at that). The people who lived 2,000+ years ago did not have the benefits of science to explain what was to them the inexplicable, and it makes sense that they would believe that these things were the result of the actions of some giant ghost that created and toys with mankind.

What I meant to Jim was that the liberalization of churches, such as the ELCA, and other denominations are forsaking the bible for political or financial reasons. This would include, homosexual pastors, pastors preaching from their own opinions and not the bible, and demonizing any pastor who they do not like because they want to learn from the bible.
As for science, many miracles happen. This would include the time of the Romans. There were scientists before, and after the time of Christ. I think they were intelligent enough to know a miracle from something scientific, such as the parting of the Red Sea. I think the interesting finds of recent times was Ron Wyatt finding Chariot wheels deep in the red sea, as well as the lost dead sea scrolls. I'm wondering what else will be found in the future.

"Red Sea" was a mistranslation of the Sea of Reeds, a much more shallow body of water, and the parting may have been a low tide, not a jello-churning special effect like in "The Ten Commandments" (although that movie is a lot of fun).

I always manage to find common ground with political adversaries when the discussion turns to film.
Charlton Heston was one of our great over-actors. Who else could have pulled off both "Ben Hur" and "Planet of the Apes"?

Yeah, I haven't seen those films for years. Heston kind of reminded me of John Wayne, in a way. Both are loud, boisterous, and have that swagger.
Planet of the Apes, man that movie was crazy.
