THE ANGEL WHO SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU

The guardian angel who should have given you advice was there all along. He/she was there when you were faced with a choice or were on the horns of a dilemma. He/she simply did not remind you that "when in doubt, don't." He/she allowed you to make your decisions.

In my life as a secretary, that little admonition was always there in the back of my mind. Does this sentence need a comma here? Should I make a telephone call to a client in the absence of my boss regarding something being worked on? Should I interrupt my boss with an important phone call when he is in an important meeting? (That one's tricky, and one learns over time which calls win.)

Of course, these are not earth-shattering or life-changing choices, but they are choices nevertheless.

I had never heard of "when in doubt, don't" until after I began my first full-time job. Another secretary shared the secret of her own little "helper" in the background.

This is a very shallow comment to a complex question; my intent was not to make light of it.

Your questions never occurred to me. Now they will. Should I thank you? Ummmmm.......

I'm not sure whether to even thank myself Sf. But some seem to be born to push those buttons no matter what.
