The Words of the Leader

Whoa!

He sounds like US during the last two elections!

I really liked this: "But let’s not be so naive as to think we are witnessing a mass conversion to the principles of conservatism. Once sworn into office, the victors reverted to type. In their view, apparently, the ends justified the means."

Though he was talking about the Dems of his era, he may as well have been talking about today's GOP.

Great stuff, Flag!

Like the Bible says'

There's nothing new under the sun! The same type of attitudes that prevail today were around then, with 'moderate' voices clamoring for the GOP to abandon principle for victory. But that type of victory is termporary, because it is built on nothing...and people know if you're real or not...and they will usually support the real thing over a fake!

Ed

I was born during the Reagan years and would love to witness someone as great as him in office. If the GOP abandon principle for political gain, as you pointed out, there's no reason to trust them at all. Political affiliation would be meaningless, and we'd be even angrier. Pray for someone with good values to run in the next election. Great post.

Refresh my memory,

but didn't McCain skip out on the CPAC convention when he was running, the same convention that Reagan was addressing in the speach you quoted?

'Nuff said, indeed, about the state of the Republican party.

'Course we all know what the answer to the following question has been for the last couple of decades, and continues to be, at an ever-accelerating pace.

"Do we find the answers to human misery in freedom as it is known, or do we sink into the deadly dullness of the Socialist ant heap?"

Finally, when it comes to the big tent broaden the base crapola for the Republican party, I'm going to do my level best to replace that particular term with a new, more appropriate one: an open legs policy, as in the we're wh*ring for votes and don't care who sticks it to us party.

Well, one word

as to purely party politics:

Specter.

Need I say more?

Flag

New one up at my place. Shameless plug!

Eric: I grew up during the Reagan years, and even though I was just a kid i always liked him because he reminded me of my grandfather...not his age, but the fact he stood for something. And not only did he stand for something, he was willing to defend his ideals and was not afraid to take criticism while doing so. The modern GOP has spent its time trying to make the left like them, when that will never happen, instead of taking a stand and communicating what they stand for.

Philo: McCain wouldn't have felt comfortable at CPAC around all those conservatives he holds in such disdain! And the 'open leg' line does fit the GOP "leadership" almost to a T these days. That's what you become when all you care about is winning at any cost; eventually it will cost you your soul.

Brian: Two more words: Lincoln Chafee! When you support someone who NEVER votes with you on important issues just because he has a (R) beside his name, you know where the mindset of the Party leadership really is.

Hey!

Where's the "new one" you promised?

Obviously, I've seen this one!

I'm working on it!

It's in the hopper, it just takes a little time to get it done. It will be original, so just check back in a little bit!
