We disagree on alot
You have a much different view of yourself than I do. You seem to indicate that you feel you are this rational person who listens and thinks and is infleuenced by rational argument. I see no indication of that. I see you on the TH site getting down into the dirt with all the rest. I don't like the forum that much for the same reason you don't. They are too inclined to call names and think too highly of themselves. They don't ignore what they call trolls. They should--it would make the discussion so much more helpful. I have a problem with the so called conservatives who disparage McCain--who certainly falls short in many areas--because it would violate their ethic. Let the country go to hellwith Obama and then we'll take over. I would like a forum where respect is shown and you can disagree with each other without being disagreeable or being dissed. I have been wanting to post what I think are reasonable middle grounds on the issue but haven't done it because I don't think anyone listens. I'll put an example or 2 in my next response.

Middle Ground
Immigration---80% at least want border security. That should be the starting point. Once the government earns our trust there then we can talk about a comprehensive plan. Businesses want cheap labor and democrats want cheap votes so instaed of unifying us around border security they divide us over a comprehensive plan.
Abortion on request--I am pro life but I don't believe that abortion on request will ever be illegal in this country again. But why not agree that partial birth abortion is reprehensible and not worth defending. And that the parents of 12 year old girls should be notified before they are given contaceptives or abortions. Is that unreasonable?
Patriot Act--what I know of it does not concern me. As a matter of fact I think it protects my family from dangerous situations. I guess I'm not too concerned about middle ground there.
Gay marriage--secular civil contracts should be available to all. It makes for a more orderly society. But the important aspect of my marriage is the covenant I make with God. Churches who oppose gay marriage should not be forced to perform them. By the way, homosexual behavior is sinful. That doesn't mean illegal, but God gets to define sin and judge it in eternity. Heterosexual relations outside marriage is also sinful. But in our temporal society, civil unions will be allowed and it won't destroy the world. But the Living God will judge it.

John Edwards
Your argument seems to be that republicans are just as bad as democrats so shut up. How does that help improve our world. My feeling is that democrats gave up their integrity during Clinton's fiasco. They defended him when he was lying and after he confessed they excused him since they said it was just about sex. Now if he sent a team in to steal the blue dress or beat up Linda Tripp or Monica it would still have been about sex. Would that have been OK? And during the recent campaign, dems are finally seeing who the Clinton's are. Something I knew all along. And back to Edwards. he made an issue of his family relationship during his campaign, took unwarranted grief about staying in the race after his wife's diagnosis(staying in the race is their decision only) and was in general highly hypocritical. Read what he said about Bill Clinton. And actually I pray for Elizabeth and thank God for her relationship with Him--that it bring her comfort, peace and hope. But I am no fan of her politically. She said the single sleaziest thing in the last election cycle--when she criticized Lynn Cheney after the homophobic rant of either kerry or Edwards outing Cheney's daughter. Elizabeth said--"maybe she is ashamed of her daughter and that is why she is reacting so strongly" A mother said this. I believe that of all the mistakes Kerry made, the biggest was naming Edwards his running mate. It cost him the election. The guy talks about poverty and gets $400 haircuts, joins a hedge fund to learn about poverty and clear cuts a mountain top to build the biggest house in NC. And no matter what repubs have done, Edwards is pitiful. He moved $15,000,000 of his money offshore so that when he paid it to himself he saved the 2.9% Medicare. he is indefensible. You dems would be better off to have chastised Clinton in 1998. Thta's why you hate W so much. You were so humiliated by Clinton's childish, cowardly lies that you need the opponent ot be as evil as he was. No one is.

I don't see the fear
you are talking about. You and the MSM use it as a scare tactic, sort of a Bush bashing exercise. Now I'm only talking about terrorists' fears. If you are in the wrong neighborhood, you have every right ot be afraid. But there is no eveidence of American's being afraid of terrorists. Until the recent economic slump, airline passenger trips are at an all time high, Vegas and Disneyland and NYC are packed. So was every mall and you can't get a super bowl ticket. So you need a little empirical evidence to get people to seriously believe Americans are afraid of terrorists. We have made a greta recovery from 9/11. I guess W would get the credit for that--he protects us. Now if he would only get real on border security.
