Comment on: ANTI-LIBERAL ZONE

AN ESSAY FOR CONSERVATIVES

Great Post, Gunny

This one needs to be put into your Featured Posts section.

The Crawfish

I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

Great Post, Gunny !!

Your best post yet Gunny.

Buckley was a patriot and his droppings were too elegant for some windowcleaner to handle.

Flush WC

WindowCleaner

Yeah, Gunny's really been hiding. Hiding out at the #1 blog on Townhall. Your investigating skills are on par with your ability to understand Constitutional and conservative principles. Enjoy your welfare checks.

rycK

That's why liberals are liberals. Too stupid to understand the simple yet solid values of Conservatism. They've withstood the test of time yet liberals, like children, seek to change for the sake of change, never quite grasping what they're changing for or why!

WindowCleaner

Let me guess. Reagan was a horrible President right and you voted for a back bench snot nosed punk!

Gunny another great post

You are so right in your post. The one thing that stood out to me is the part of personal responsibility. There is such a lack of that in our country. If someone screws up there is always someone to bail them out. It has happened to Wall Street, Congress, the auto makers, even the American on the street. The government which has screwed things up so bad, has been charged with fixing it. How can you have the thief fix and replace what he stole? Then carry no responsibility and have the fix work? It can't.

Buckley was not an eloquent asshat. If you want asshats consider then Pelosi, Frank, Reid, Dodd, and all the other liberal elitist types. The problem with these people is that they expect us to live by standards that they feel they are not required to live by. The "I'm better than you, treat me as royalty" attitude. Remember these people caused our financial mess. If you look you will see what they have done. The CRA, the lies spoken about Fannie and Freddie all come from these people. Then they throw money at it to hide their screw ups and blame republicans. How typical. Again never taking responsibility for their actions.

James

Thanks for the kudos and will read them later when I can relax and take my time.

James

"The CRA, the lies spoken about Fannie and Freddie all come from these people. Then they throw money at it to hide their screw ups and blame republicans. How typical. Again never taking responsibility for their actions."

BINGO!

Window Cleaner berates WFB but Buckley had the moral courage to write "God, Man, and Yale" back in the 50's which shook liberalism to its core and then he STOOD BY his words!

What lib does that? NONE!

Gunny

DAMN GOOD ESSAY! T-A-K-E A B-O-W. Window Cleaner, you may want to stop huffing that Windex. That s#!t is bad for you. The only thing about Buckley was most people could not understand what he was telling them. There are those of us,some belatedly so,who DID get it. Bush CAVED,and bailed out the 3 stooges in Detroit. Basically $17,000,000,000 tossed down the commode. All just to "have a viability plan" in place by March 31st? The UAW must be on par in terms of wages and benefits by Dec 31,2009? With NO REQIUREMENT the incoming train wreck has to honor those provisions. Un-frigging-real.

AMEN!!!

LAST. SENTENCE. PERIOD.

clyde

Bush is a total disappointment to Conservatives.

Gunny

Good one!
I think I'll copy and paste that Buckley quote and use it as wallpaper on my desktop.
I've read it before and it always strikes me that he was a genius.
And he had the ability to say so much in so few words. A real quality and talent.

Great Article!

Never grow weary in doing good!

Watched our Commander in Chief

the other day being interviewed by American Enterprise Institute. I wish we could have seen him like this for the last 8 years rather than the MSM portrayal of him.
He touched on the Fanny May/Freddie Mac issue a little bit saying, I look forward to how history will uncover the players of this tragedy (paraphrasing).
The interview was a little more than 1 hour long, but was more than 8 years of information on how this man was trying to move this country toward Conservatism.
I know I'll get slammed for that statement, so be it...
Truth be known, I knew George Bush, he is a Conservative, but was led to believe he could get cooperation from Democrats like he did in Texas. Little did he know how cut-throat things operated in Washington DC. In that regard, he was truly out of his league.

Loved your essay Gunny! Keep it up!

Locked and loaded in Texas....

Wow!

Heavy.

The sad fact is there is now a majority of our fellow countrymen who do not know freedom, independence and self reliance. There is a lesser part of this majority that may honestly believe that everything would be peaches and cream if the government was in charge. The other part of this majority have been told since the days of LBJ that they are inferior and have to have help in everything from living wages to higher education. They only know how to sit on their porch and complain about how they have been screwed over by "the man" while waiting for another welfare check. In a way they are right. They have been screwed by "the man" in Washigton.

One of your best, Gunny,

Will have to think for a while, and when we're done shoveling out, come back and reread it.

You do know the definition of a loser?

A window cleaner who steps back to admire his work. ;=}

Also, can someone explain to me just WHAT a 'constitutional lawyer' is and why we're in so much trouble with so many of them being liberal. Is that some sort of oxymoron?

beachmom

He was a genius and the left hated him for it.

They need to put all of his Firing Line's on DVD. I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

Retired Geek

Thanks brother and NEVER will we relent.

Truly inspiring

Excellent essay, Gunny! Your words "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!" You should go on the lecture circuit with this one! Great job!

garryb

He tried to play nice with a nest of vipers. I said it back in Jan 01 that he should have fired EVERY Clintonite on day one. They sandbagged him but he is to blame as well for abandoning real Conservative values for crap like Scamnesty!

buck

In 1775, it was 33% for, 33 against, 33% undecided, and 1% stupid. Now it's more like 33% FOR liberty and freedom and 67% against it but for a nanny state.

MD/MG

Constitutional lawyers...a scary thought and even scarier is that, as you say, they're LIBS!

Gunny

I have to agree with Craw, you have outdone yourself on this one.

I really enjoyed the quotes from Kipling and Casteneda let alone all the other great patriots you drew from. I've enjoyed reading both very much in the past.

Keep up the good fight, you ain't alone.

garryb

BTW, thanks for the link. I'll check it out. And while you MAY take some flak here about Bush, rest assured, YOU stood by your principles. Kudos.

dawndawn

I'm trying to be El Eushbo's protege! haha.

Thank you for your kind words.

After Buckley

The idea of a conservative intellectual became an oxymoron. Can you point to anyone who now carries the cloak of intellectual conservative thought? It would be nice to listen or read a cogent conservative point of view. Your essay was passionate, but was more of a scatter gun approach to thought and argument.

As a for instance. I am a former Marine 1-5-65 to 12-7-68. I view myself as a patriot and one who was willing to put my life on the line for my country, 6-10-67 to 10-30-68 - one full tour in Viet Nam plus a four month extension. For you and your fellow travelers, that counts for nothing. By being a liberal I am by your definition a coward and traitor. Shades of intolerance.

My heroes include Barry Goldwater and Wm.F.Buckley. Who, in this day of insult and invective, is as eloquent and thoughtful in conservative thought today?

GunnyG

DITTO! Window Cleaner needs his clock cleaned!

BHL

"to you and your fellow travelers, that counts for nothing."

Please point to where I've said that. My beef is with liberals AND their RINO henchmen who undermine this country daily. Those who lie and pervert the system, like Bill Clinton, whose scandalous foreign contributions have FINALLY come to light. THAT is what P8sses me off.

As to my essay, sorry that I'm no Buckley, I'm just an average joe, the kind your party makes fun of, ridicules, and investigates,i.e., Joe the Plumber.

Maybe I need to be more nuanced like Hanoi John Kerry.

BTW, thanks for serving Leatherneck, you deserve and rate our respect, unlike what the left currently serves up to the military.

Dean D.

Thanks. I've always looked at it as one team, one fight, but when you're fighting liberals AND the country club RINOs, it DOES seem like you're shoveling sh*t against the tide.

Georgetwin

He needs a 55gal high colonic to reach his brain housing group.

The Second Amendment

is listed second only because it is needed to protect the First.

Gunny

I have to agree with the others. This one belongs in the featured posts at the top of this blog.

The quote by Gerald Ford is one not to be
forgotten:

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have."

What scares me the most is Obummers ego is big enough that he has designs to put his name and his *hope and change* policies right along side of FDR and LBJ.He'll saddle us with yet more entitlements we'll never get rid of.What a thought.FDR,LBJ & BHO,the liberal three stooges.

Good essay....

Gunny

Concur with the majority on this one; featured post.

Ignore the literary criticism. Your style comes across plain and simple, void of pretense and innuendoes. It is refreshing to read as if someone were plainly speaking directly to you. A skill most Marines learn early.

They can keep the witticisms and clever subtle nuances, I prefer clarity and that’s what you provide. Please keep up the good work.

Essay is on Point

"We must vote for leaders who believe in God and Country and who see our Bill of Rights and the Constitution as we see them, as God-given and unalterable by Man."
********
For me, the above sums up your essay. My question is, where are these leaders? How do I find them?

I agree with everything you are saying, but I do not have the gift of leadership (and I do believe it is a gift) so I need to find someone to support and hold accountable.

Thanx for researching and writing such a powerful essay, GunnyG.

WOW

What a post Gunny keep em coming and we'll keep reading and learning. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Bleeding-heart Liberal

Why don’t you compare that argument with your left and the modern Liberals? They redefined Liberal, which once was a classical and repectable idea. Then, having ruined that label, they now push the term progressives. (Same types of folks)

Much how they would like to redefine conservative, as they do Republicans. But no intellectuals? That falls on its own merit.

Great article and great quote

from William F. Buckley. Buckley used to have a local show in NYC. Even the libs would admit to his brilliance and his seering wit. He was also a very kind man. The libstains who knock him here don't know what they are talking about. What's new with that?

Defense rules for libs.
Sept 1. Point cell phone dial 911. If that doesn't work go point step 2.
Step 2. try therapy no wait that's not step 2. Step 2 yell Police! If that doesn't work go to Step 3, try to identify with you attacker, get them to tell you how they feel. Explain how you feel the same way too. Step 4, Give up your wallet or whatever else the bad guy wants. Step 5 hope you get to the ER on time to stop the bleeding. Step 6 now go to therapy.

Defense rules for Conservatives

Step 1 make a small group in the bad guy's chest.

USAEagle1

That's the libs for ya amigo, rehashing the same old same old, just like spray painting a turd with gold paint. It looks good until you try to pick it up.

INTHENOW

Thanks for the major kudos. I'll never stop, they know it and I know it and THAT is what scares them. The bunkerize themselves in a world of nuance and cocktail parties, and are totally disconnected from the rest of the nation. That is why plain talkers like Reagan, Palin, and myself (although I am not in their league) scares the crap out of them.

AL (Always Learning)

I'm hoping for people like Gohmert, Palin, Jindal, Boerner, etc, who have a spine, a brain, and the guts to go toe-to-toe with the libs.

R E

Thanks. The more we can connect with out Founding Fathers and their wisdom and common sense leadership, the better off this nation will be.

The Godfather I

heh heh.

Ain't no group like a tiny group!

Gunny re Boehner

Your reply to AL has me slightly puzzled:
“I'm hoping for people like Gohmert, Palin, Jindal, Boerner, etc, who have a spine, a brain, and the guts to go toe-to-toe with the libs.”

Was “Boerner” at typo referring to House Minority Leader John Boehner? If so, that Boehner demonstrated the spine of an octopus, the brain power of garden mulch, and the guts of a Vichy government lackey when push came to knock them on their aft quarters with the Libs.

I am referring to his less than stellar treatment of Rep Jeff Flake (R-AZ). Boehner caved to the fiscal wh0res when he slapped down Flake, a long time thorn for the tax and spend (borrow and spend) crowd.

Flake had the temerity of writing a letter to the Minority Leader calling on him to actually follow through on promises of fiscal discipline.
http://flake.house.gov/UploadedFiles/Letter-to-Boehner-08-2 1-06.pdf

Boehner responded by removing him from the Judiciary Committee instead of making Flake the ranking member.

Gunny

You've been busy!
the Liberals do not understand the meaning of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
God, Family, Country, the ability to work hard and make a decent living for yourself and your family. These are all principals we conservatives understand.
Our founding father's were wise, they understood the dangers of a Gov't with too much power,
hence the 2nd Ammendment.

one for the books

Your arrangement sure was good.
I like the last part of that quote, especially: “…; never to the authority of political truths arrived at yesterday at the voting booth.” -- And thusly because we should be affecting the voting booth, not the other way around. (which also irritates the hives out of liberals)

On to the taxes. Ever suppose he read the Declaration? The lefts agenda is to beat back anything in their “progressive” way. I guess you can judge popularity by troll count.

BH Liberal

"Who, in this day of insult and invective, is as eloquent and thoughtful in conservative thought today?"

If your Rolodex was not so crowded by liberals, or corrupted by them, you’d have room and recognize some of the conservatives of the intellectual persuasion. While Buckley had a special foundational place, status, and intellectual cred for the conservative movement, there are countless others. I find many are thoughtful and eloquent. But I understand, as is usual, the attempt to work your qualifying descriptors into that equation. You, however, must conduct your own research since that is your position.

I’d say Thomas Sowell is one popular example, who certainly has a following and also has the intellectual criteria you claim is either lacking, non-existent, or obsolete. Lets put it this way, I don’t for a minute believe all intellectuals – or conservatives who are intellectuals – have converted to the Alinsky or Trotsky camp. And, much as they’d like to, the Liberal left does not have control over conservative thought or their (vast) membership. But both of those would be stunning revelations to the modern Liberalholic.

Gunny

One of your best (so far).

@Windowcleaner:

"Setting the bar characteristically low is a 'thuglican trademark, but this is kind of sad."

1. Exactly what are you referring to by 'setting the bar characteristically low'? If I were referring to that kind of logic, I'd be trying to point out the fact that, at least within the past few decades, it has been the liberals who seek to do so - what else would you call a party that apparently seeks to appeal to the Least Common Denominator among the electorate?

2. Exactly what is it about the word 'rethuglican' that liberals like so much? I've seen it in a few places, even used it once in a political jest elsewhere (as indicating wha I see of the liberal pov), but the word itself makes no real sense; it's nothing more than an inane slur. Is there really any reason for using it, or is it just intended to show off 'hey, I know how to insult people'?

Dear GunnyG

Let me add my kudos for a fine article. As Dean D. said, those quotes from Casteneda and Kipling well complemented your remarks. You can seldom go wrong with Kipling!

Saltwater

My burst, I was thinking of Jeff Flake when I wa typing that although it WAS Boehner who led the Republican revolt over the summer when Piglosi was trying to weasel out of voting to drill offshore. I can forgive past mistakes ifthey're willing to fight the good fight W/O backsliding.

WindowCleaner

I've never asked anyone to fight my battles for me. I could tie half my brain behind my back and still run circles around you.

Jennifer

Thanks for the kudos and THAT is why I labled this essay the way I did. We get it, they don't, and they never will.

xpressit

Yeah, I get my share of trolls here and on my email, libsmustdie@gmail.com

I get so much mail that it takes me awhile to weed through it and even then, I miss a lot.

Steve

Kipling was right on the money and if he could see the England of today, he'd cry.

GunnyG

I'm also a believer in second chances, and willing to give Boehner the benefit of doubt – as long as you said, he is “... willing to fight the good fight W/O backsliding.”

However, just because he might be wearing the correct uniform, that doesn't mean I would trust him behind me in a firefight. I would keep where I could see him.

And I am watching Mr. Boehner VERY closely for now.

Saltwater

NO DOUBT! ANY former RINO is little better than a Dummycrat and must be eyed carefully for ANY hint of backsliding. I'm of the opinion that he saw the anger of Conservatives and grew a spine and a set of balls overnight. We'll see.

WFB-POS

A C.I.A. stooge who should be considered the granddaddy of neoconism--that idioticically inane brand of Big Govt Conservatism that has wrought so much evil upon America.

That you morons STILL think Ronaldo Reagamnesty was a limited-govt conservative is laughable.

That you have the GALL to sit around and decry the socialism that liberals/Democrats are gonna give us...after being GWB Buttboys for 8 long, disgusting years of hyper-expansion of govt/spending/deficits...shows just how lacking in principle and moral character y'all are.

Y'all are a joke!

Oh, and Merry Christmas, hypocritical...

...cowards!

Dear Paulista

I offer you, in turn, a Merry Christmas without venom.

I would like the right to carry...

but I live in the Untied Socialist State of Blagojavich, er, Illinois, one of the last two states to enact any concealed carry.
I like your thoughts expressed here. Bill Buckley Jr is my kind of thinker too.
