Comment on: Squiddy's Sane World

Still Alive and Kicking (well, huffing and puffing...)

Well....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

And with your very impressive list, you have reminded me that I SUCK and need to get busy. Sigh.

PS

I've been to Livingston, too, and I thought it was the most beautiful place in the world.

Then, I went to Maui. And Now it's a tie.

Shining City,

HOW could you possibly suck? I don't get it. You are a shining city on a hill, a beacon of wisdom, knowledge and good!

Wow, you've been to little ol' Livingston, MT? That's my birthplace. AND, you've been to Hawaii. I have not. You win on that one!

Squiddy

Happy birthday! And may you have many more.

Was it modesty that made you leave out one of your major accomplishments?

You brighten our days with your posts here and challenge us to strive to be better people by your example of overcoming difficulty in the face of adversity.

Squiddy

Happy 40th birthday. No, you sure don't look like 40. But, I used to get those types of comments like you don't look your age and my comeback would be "this is what 40 looks like". That usually got a blank look. LOL

Yes, you are an inspiration with all the things you've done. I'm most impressed.

Like Purplegimp said you have been through a lot of adversity and keep on trucking. That is a major accomplishment in itself.

Thanks for asking how I'm feeling. I'm doing a little better now having gotten past the tornado trauma thing about 3 weeks ago. Fortunately we only lost a bunch of shingles off the roof. It could have been worse, but it was terrifying.

I've got a new, hopefully humorous post up on my blog, Goshawk Needs Help, if and when you get a chance to come on over.

Oh I forgot

to say that on my 40th birthday my ex husband took me out to dinner and I cried through the whole dinner.

Purplegimp and Peppermint,

Ya know, I could give the very same compliment back to each of you, thanks! And I'm blushing or my heart feels warmer or both.

Pepp, good line about "This is what 40 looks like"!

And I'll be over to visit both of you!

The Big Four-Oh!

Happy Birthday, kiddo!

From my vantage point, you're still in dypees.

You've done a lot of really cool stuff, more than most people ever do in their lifetime, and you're only 40. That's excellent, and that can never be taken away from you. Some Life Wisdom from your graying elder.

But most important, those two cute little kids in your pics, and that guy with the beard. THAT'S what it's all about.

PS

I had a heart attack about ten years ago, and though I do that huff/puff thing, too, I'm still kicking.

Hang in there.

That looks like Brian's...

...kind of dog!

I still have some years to go to reach 40. [snicker]

Happy Birthday

Not sure what achievements I would put down outside the professional sphere. Surviving I think ...

I used to do some youth voluntary work, but it got in the way of my social life.

... erm, but I don't have much of a social life at present anyway, apart from the occasional pint with some friends from work (and I do mean friends rather than acquaintances).

Happy Birthday Squid

All that good clean livin' paid off:) Your list is pretty impressive. Yo hablo espanol un poco. Also enough german, italian and french to get into a fight.

When I was 25 I had a business with a partner. It was a desktop publishing business. We made money out of thin air. Kinda cool but not a steady income. Then Bill Gates made it so everybody could do it at home. (shaking a fist in the air) "Darn that Bill Gates!" Our plans were to buy the Charlotte Hornets (since the Kentucky Wildcats were not for sale) and sit courtside.

Happy Birthday Squiddy

40! I think I spent my 40th changing diapers on 5 month old. Not great but it was memorable....what a smell!

Happy birthday old person

I just turned 37 last month, so I am much younger.

"a-dor-a-ble" adj.

Hey everyone, I just looked up "adorable" in the dictionary and it showed a picture of Squiddy's family including the puppy...

JC.................LOL

You really ARE evil, man!

Doc Steech's Bobcat Dad

Hey, Bozeman! He may have rubbed elbows with my mother and grandparents who lived in Bozeman for like forever!

Jimmy Carter, you baby you!

I wasn't sure from your "Carter Era" kid picture whether you were slightly younger or older than I am. Guess you're still a virgin to being all extra cool and MIDDLE AGED!

BrianR,

I'm glad you survived the heart attack! You seem like a trooper who could make it surviving almost anything, though. Do you still have all the emergency preparedness plan and supplies?

And yeah, the boys and 'bearded guy' are the greatest treasures I have. I really love pancakes, too, though.

Mr. England

I admire you greatly just for being a bastion of sanity and conservative values in the UK in this era! And if you have friends, not just mere acquantances, you must be pretty decent besides that!

Alien Hillary,

Yeah, I hoped that GIF was disturbing, HA HA HA! I think people need to be aware of how scary she really is. That was genuine footage from her time on the campaign tral, hee hee.

Scarlet P,

Yes, you are that literate and cultured one. (I'll confess, I ain't never even read the Scarlet Pimpernel! I'm not as literate as I pretend.)

It's fun to speak other languages. I try to learn at least one funny phrase in other languages to pretend I am multilingual. Even if my Japanese only goes as far as, "I am nine months pregnant. Anesthetic!"

Hey, you did something techy before Gates got to it. You must be smart.

Sgt Relic and WIL

Sgt, your 40th sounds like mine and my husband's a couple years back. We had little babies at both times and are waiting for our fiftieth (in 2015 and 2018) to do something more spectacular.

WIL, you child! Ah... to be 37 again... a few less bags around the eyes, no heart trouble.

ScarletP again,

You are so sweet! Hey, what about you, maybe you have an adorable family too! (Or at least practicing to make one with your wife?)

Congratulations and...

...Happy Birthday! Speaking from the other side of the divide, it just keeps getting better. Now you actually *understand* what your parents were trying to tell you when you were growing up and thought you knew it all!

As for me,

si

we have two doggies which are a handful right now but we are heading in the human spawn direction soon. Mrs. Pimpernel had some healing to do and is feeling great nowadays. I have to hustle up.

Happy BDay Squiddy!

Sorry I'm late. Hey, I just turned 13, and it's killing me. I can relate.

This site is worth a visit, it's by someone who is leaving the UK to live in the States:

Happy birthday. Glad to hear your other half is back to work, hope the actors strike does not come off, enough already.

You have done more traveling then my almost 65 years. Only out of US travel I did was to Canada [a few times] for a vacation with my lovely wife.

I was in the service [US Coast Guard {4 years 1962-1966} at the Bank of NY from 1966-1972 then Nassau County Police Dept. 1972-2006. Seems like you got me beat with travel and jobs, how did you pack all that in to only 40 years?

I have lived around the NY City area all my life, except for my time in the service. I can say that it's not great here [do to the solid blue of NYC] but I make due. After I retired I was asked if we were going to move out of NYC, my response was, my daughter [and her husband] also new 7 month old grand daughter live [beautiful house] about a half mile away and we live in a nice area of NYC so what do you [the one asking] think.

Hope all works out for you good health and happiness.

Jevica,

I miss NYC all the time! I watch Cash Cab and think I want to go on a trip to NY with my husband and try to get the Cash Cab!

It can get tiresome there and my heart could not handle the stairs and subways these days, but what a city! And if you've got a 7-month old granddaughter, well... that's a fun age. At least my 7 month boy is delightful and so sweet. So I'd bet your granddaughter might be the apple of your eye. :)

NYC cop -- tough job!!! What do you think of all the cop shows based in NYC -- real or fantasy?

Greg England

It's interesting when Brits want to come to the U.S. And I can see what the article implies about optimism being an American import. In England/Europe it seems 'uncool' to be postive. I fall into that trap too, thinking I should be like the Winona Ryder character from Beetlejuice -- wearing black, total ennui...

I tend to love the UK. I have ancestry there (Leicester -- sp?) or at least the area north of Liverpool. Maybe it's different and moody in a way I like.

SquiddyPopPerkeyJean

Just love my granddaughter every time we see her everything is different. We [the wife and I] watch her every Monday when my daughter works, makes me realize that child raising is for the young.

BTW it was the NASSAU County Police Department [not NYC]. Much different. Much better job all around, can't tell about the shows but makes me wonder why the bad guys do it. For the last 15 years I tested those who had been arrested for DWI, testified in court, paperwork etc.

Late to the mix

But, Happy Birthday!! Remember, 40 is just a number...I WILL be 18 til I die(Shall I sing it, for you? :)
When I turned 40, My sugar daddy and kids surprised me with a party...all my friends were there even Bernie from Cincinnatti. It was totally awesome! Birthdays are big in our house...It's like a personal holiday celebration.

March 6th...

well, that's a date that all good Texans commemorate every year. We toast those who fell on that date in 1836, as the Alamo fell to non-drybacks.
YOUNGSTER!!!!!!! (okay, so I turn 43 this month)

Lived in Dallas, Ft Worth, San Antonio, SanDiego (well...boot camp and a 3 month school), Millington, TN (11 months of electronics schools), Whidbey Island, WA, Warrington/Horsham/Doylestown, PA, Middleburg, FL, and aboard 6 aircraft carriers.

For my 40th, my car got decorated with shoe polish and black balloons in the parking lot in front of my squadron, and I got taken to dinner by the wife and kids.

Howdy Squiddy

Happy belated Birthday. It looks to me like you have a good deal going. Thanks for the Positive aspects of life you share. So many folks just dwell on the bad things and harp on them until it is intolerable. I know after reading your Blog I will have a smile on my face. Judging from the number of people wishing you well, I would say that would be another achievement in your life. You have a lot of friends with good Character. Keep up the excellent work.

Apollyon67

Wow, thanks for your nice remarks! Ya know, ya get to a point where nothing can be done except find that sense of humor and realize at least you're not in an Al Qaeda torture chamber!!!!

(And take your meds, if it helps.)
