The Starbucks Mutiny

I like it

Great analogy. Call me Ishmael.

Another Excellent Piece

Unfortunately both R and D candidates are afflicted with the GW disorder.

VP

The entire crew goes along with it. They want the gold doubloon thats been nailed to the mast...the vision that the White Whale will make everything all right. People believe in government. They're all saying that W hasnt dont enough about the situation. He's done way too much if you ask me and Obama's going to do a whole lot more.

A different choice

My son is currently sporting a "Cthulu 08" bumper sticker. He informs me that it makes no sense to choose the lesser of two evils when pure evil is available. He may have a point.

I suppose a fictional Lovecraft character can be elected, after all, look at Obama. He's a fictional character and he's winning....

The shift is on in our market from Starbucks to Dunkin' Donuts. Dunkin's new location just opened half a block from Starbucks and the bleeding has become arterial. I read this as a return to conservative values. Great coffee, rich and mellow coupled with good old fashioned American doughnuts is defeating the evil forces of bitter coffee, tasteless scones and high prices.

Victory is ours!

Sarge, the coffee thing....

Funny you should mention that. I live on the "West Side" of Cincinnati. That means native working class. For years the WestSide has bemoaned a lack of a Starbucks. Yet this week, a new Dunkin Donuts blgd. is being completed near my house. Sign of the times?

Cthulu!

I worked on some 'Billy and Mandy' episodes where one of the characters was 'The Great Cthulu'.
How is your son going to vote for pure evil. Neither of the two nudnicks running are 'evil' wil your son be writing in Hillary Clinton?

Oh Yes, An "Explosion" Is Coming!

Your comparison is correct, the vast horde is fixing to go "belly-up" and Congress still wants to go after Moby Dick?

Personally I want to be sailing on the "devious-cruising Rachel" not on the "Pequod".

Then I would still be "in her retracing search after her missing children" (i.e., what made America Great).

Gray Ghost

That Melville analogy was a whim but everybody just keeps adding stuff that makes it stronger. Now I'm going to have to read that book again!

Dave- My Daughter told me the same thing is happening in Boston. The Age Of Pretentious Yuppiedom is ending. The Democrats should tremble.
If I went into a Dunkin Doughnuts my wife would see chocolate glaze on my collar and smell transfat on my breath and know I'd been 'cheatin'. Eatin' IS cheatin' around my house.

aaaaaaaagh

my daughter has Starbuck stock!!! Should I tell her the bad news??
But Dunkin Donuts are better than any others and the coffee has improved to be really good.
Skep we are leaving tomorrow for Maine for a week. See you all when I get back!

"Moby Dick" is one on my favorite books. I wish that the entire TH crowd would understand my comparison of O'Vomit to Pip, the cabin boy. Both are singularly the same in their attitudes. But I don't dare do a full written comparison for fear of a "Harsh Cry" of racism.

At Mississippi State, I got my only A+ in American Literature for writing a paper that neither Moby Dick (the whale) nor Ahab (the Captain) were evil incarnate. The true evil was in Pip.

One more thing, if you get a chance stop by and read my article entitled "After Shocks: D.C. vs. Heller".

I think there is a consequence of this ruling that the Looney Left and the Liberal Elites will hate.

Gray Ghost - sounds like a paper...

... that needs to be posted online! Might make some very entertaining reading for further comparisons to Sen. Obama.

On the larger point of belt tightening, that does seem to be one thing that government bureaucrats are never forced to do. It would be nice to see an actual reduction in the overall budget and employment figures for federal, state, and local governments, but that's probably a dream I won't live long enough to see, just like the possibility of my Cubs winning a World Series.

Ed

I'm not so sure about the Cubs but you're going to live to see some huge cuts in government unless you like to run across heavily-trafficed streets without looking. Michigan is having them, California is going over the cliff to bankruptcy, the feds are a year or two behind. The capital flight from an Obama Administration ought to do the trick.

EmJayne

Emjayne in Maine is mainly on the plane?
By George I think she's got it!
