Denver fan
Once upon a time, I was an avid fan of John Denver. Then, I saw him on a Merv Griffin show. My John Denver glee club died that day.
The song Rocky Mountain High was inspired by John's sudden realization that he realized that his "being" had been someplace "out there" and chose his parents and came to earth.
When I heard that, I gathered every vinyl and 8-track I could find and burned them all.
I am sure "something else" inspired the hit tune.
End of commentary.

Songwriters are a Different Breed
That's not the story told by his ex wife and she claims to have been there. Her claim is that it was written within a few days of the death of a friend, and after a camping trip where they lay in a sleeping bag looking at a meteor shower. The lyrics support that version.
Regardless, artists are flakes, Colorado needs to replace its state song, and this is a good update.
If you want to attack a song writer, lets go after Frances Scott Key over the conduct of his son. I like other songs better as potential national anthems, though I much apprecieate the history of Baltimore.
I used to know all of the INTS, but that was in an earlier era and a different life.
