Better Than Rooster Cogburn...

is Captain Nathan Brittles, John Wayne's character in "She wore a Yellow Ribbon".

But that is only personal opinion CF. I do not disagree that Rooster is not a great character study.

Gray Ghost

Yeah, I've heard many people mention "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon."

Sadly, that is one of the John Wayne movies I have not seen yet.

It is on my list for one of these days!

OMG!!!

YOU HAVEN'T SEEN "SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON"????

FOR SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!

You will refrain from blogging and posting and chatting, until you have seen this film!!!!

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on Liberty World USA. It has been added to my favorites!

;-)

Interesting

I actually prefer the genuine article. Ever hear of Nat Love, Jesse Stahl, Bill Pickett, or Jim Fowler?

As for using movie characters as inspiration, I always admired the character "Atticus Finch" played by Gregory Peck, most any role played by Henry Fonda, same goes for Sidney Poitier. I also can't forget my main man Denzel Washington. Also love Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant.

Speaking of cowboys, I though "Brokeback Mountain" gave a rather new look on men using macho attitudes to compensate for something. My wife liked the movie. I did too.

Ralph Ellison, LIBERAL INCARNATE!

Mr. Ellison is a typical Liberal. He mentions (in the standard Liberal fashion) 4 black cowboys as the "real deal" but neglects to mention men like Jesse Chisholm.

Gregory Peck's "Atticus Finch" is a commendable choice; but did Mr. Ellison do as Mr. Peck's good friend Charlton Heston did and actually stand up to be counted during the Civil Rights era? (Conservatives did, Liberals didn't.)

Jimmy Stewart is a good choice and was one of Hollywood's greatest Conservatives. His westerns are also very good (Winchester 76; Night Passage; The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, with John Wayne).

"Brokeback Mountain" s*cks and is poorly acted and directed to boot. It will be tossed in the "wastepaper basket of history" in about 5 to 10 years. The only reason it is fashionable to talk about this movie is that it is a "show case" for homosexual relations.

To place it in the same category as any of the truly great westerns is laughable.

To the Cons Ghost

“Mr. Ellison is a typical Liberal.”

Well, I’d describe myself as a proud liberal.

“ He mentions (in the standard Liberal fashion) 4 black cowboys as the "real deal" but neglects to mention men like Jesse Chisholm.”

Umm, I mentioned those cowboys because their constantly overlooked. Sorry If I like African Americans. My mistake.

“Gregory Peck's "Atticus Finch" is a commendable choice; but did Mr. Ellison do as Mr. Peck's good friend Charlton Heston did and actually stand up to be counted during the Civil Rights era? “

Yes Atticus Finch is a great character. As for Mr. Heston standing up, he was correct to do so. As for myself, I wasn‘t born until 1974 so I wasn‘t there. My parents were as well as my grandparents, various family members, and other important people in my life. Being an African American male, I know about civil rights and racism in this country. It‘s a everyday struggle for me and millions of others.

“(Conservatives did, Liberals didn't.)”

That is perhaps the most idiotic statement ever.

“Jimmy Stewart is a good choice”

Yes he is.

“…and was one of Hollywood's greatest Conservatives.”

Nobody’s perfect. I don’t hold that character flaw against him.

Part 2

“ His westerns are also very good (Winchester 76; Night Passage; The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, with John Wayne).”

Yes they are. I prefer his films like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Spirit of St. Louis, Vertigo, The Philadelphia Story, It's a Wonderful Life, Harvey, and Anatomy of a Murder. There are so many to name.

"Brokeback Mountain" s*cks and is poorly acted and directed to boot. It will be tossed in the "wastepaper basket of history" in about 5 to 10 years. ”

That’s your opinion. The majority of people disagree with your sophomoric assertion.

“The only reason it is fashionable to talk about this movie is that it is a "show case" for homosexual relations.”

Really? I thought it was a good film and interesting love story.

“To place it in the same category as any of the truly great westerns is laughable.”

I didn’t say that.

Mr. Ellison Part #1

1. "I mentioned those cowboys because their constantly overlooked."
So is Jesse Chisholm. If you only write black names (without a qualifier, such as: I like the real deal. Being Black I really like Bill Pickett, etc. and feel they are over-looked.), then you are seen as pretentious or arrogant by those reading your comments.

2. "It‘s a everyday struggle for me and millions of others."
Not any more it isn't; unless you live in New York or above the Mason-Dixon Line. I know, I have lived here most of my 57 years. But for 3 years I lived in New York State. The racial prejudice I saw there was worse than anything I saw in Mississippi.

3. "That is perhaps the most idiotic statement ever."
The vast majority of men (like Mr. Heston and my father) were Conservatives. I know. I lived thru the period. I saw them.

4. "Nobody’s perfect. I don’t hold that character flaw against him."
That is a pretty arrogant statement. You might want to re-think this remark.

Mr. Ellison Pat #2

5. "I prefer his films like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,...."
Those are great movies with a Conservative message. I like them too.

6. "The majority of people disagree with your sophomoric assertion."
The majority of people (outside of Hollywood and the East Coast) agree with me and not with your "freshman level" response. Look how little it made at the box office.

&. Yes I am from Mississippi. Look at my Blog Site. (And no, "Gray Ghost" has nothing to do with The War Between the States.)

Thanks Friar!
