Damnn! Guns

I'll never have to read another history book with you around! When you're done with the first draft can I get an autograped copy? WOW!!

Thank God

I am thankful to God for people like these. If it weren't for them we would all be speaking other languages than English and wouldn't be enjoying the freedoms we have today.
I don't have adequate words to express my gratefulness.

The naval battles

The battle with the SoDak and Washington vs Kirishima and her battle group was the 2nd of a pair of confused night battles that weekend in the Slot. 2 nights earlier RADM Callahan and RADM Scott were killed when their small force of cruisers and destroyers found itself opposed by Kirishima, her sister Hiei, and a cruiser/destroyer force. The heroism of those two night battles will go down in US Naval history as some of the finest we've shown. See BLOODY FRIDAY OFF GUADALCANAL, by Lawrence Cortesi.

It's all good reading. You CAN'T be bullsh*tted by the libturds if YOU KNOW THE TRUTH!

Reading the words, "get after them, Washington!" tore me up. The guy was probably a heartbeat away from dying, from sharks, concussion from shells, exposure, or being sucked into the screws of the Washington, but had the guts to yell that.

Simply awesome.

The Crawfish

I definately agree. My point here is that the Navy bugged out on 7 Aug to save the fleet from attack but fought when they had to, saving the day. Of course, tooting the Marines horn, they endured many many nightly bombardments from the Tokyo Express until the Navy came back. Heroes all.

Excellent piece. Too bad the libgnats cannot be bothered reading, and understanding, just how important to the very survival of this nation to have the BEST forces on the planet. Seems like they just as soon forget about the battles that have kept us free lo these many decades since. Not only hoist one to Mitchell, but to ALL who fought in those years! I cannot imagine what would happen if this country were to get into a similar conflict today. Is there a chance in hell that these softies on the left would support the fight? IMHO highly frigging unlikely.

"Is there a chance in hell that these softies on the left would support the fight? IMHO highly frigging unlikely."

I agree. We'd be screwed. It would be the few fighting for the many, with the many at home b8tching if they had to make ONE single sacrifice.

Look at Iraq/Afghan now. WHO in the states has had to make a sacrifice like "victory gardens, gas rationing, rubber rationing, meat rationing, etc? No one.

And yet the left mewls and whines but never serves.

Wow

I have now words. Thank you for posting this.

Greater Love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his brother.

The Pres. telling folks "Oh,just go shopping" or words to that effect, was a HUGE error. That would have been the Golden Opportunity to get the people behind the effort, but he blew it. How can people support something they have NO knowledge, nor understanding of? And,since they are,in their eyes, unaffected by it,will lap up most ANYTHING those opposed to war will put out there. Unless,or until,we receive another vicious attack like we had on 9/11,or it starts to affect more people on a personal level, how do you show the ill-informed the DANGER that just wishing this problem away presents? Especially when the LSM is in lock-step with those who wish to see the WoT lost.

clyde

agreed. He should have said suck it up and knuckle down to get the job done!

It's interesting,

SGT. Mitchell Paige was the literal face of a toy loved by several generations of children here in America.

He IS G.I. Joe!!!

norman

I agree. I looked at a pic of Paige and then at a GI Joe from back then on ebay. Looks similar to me. Others say no. I like to think he's immortalized.

Gunny,

I posted a link about this very subject somewhere under the Randi Rhodes topic. The writer of the article says that the makers of G.I. Joe actually came to Sgt. Paige and asked to use his face. His response was,"as long as he always stays a Marine."

In my very early teens i talked to a couple Guadalcanal vets. One said not knowing what was happening was the hardest to take. He said he was never so happy to see the US army as when they showed up as reinforcements and relief. He figured the fighting was as good as over, and he was right. The other one said a Springfield wasn't much good against airplanes, but he never stopped trying to hit one, long after his buddies just cooled it. They both said the Canal was the worst because the issue was in doubt for many months. There was grim fighting afterwards, but the issue was forgone.

to the sarge

incredible story similar to the jewish gunnery sarge in saipan that won the cmh 30 years later. You are a great american and educator-bonedocfacs

bone doc

Thanks. I've always felt that those who take the extra step should never be forgotten!

Savage99

There is a book called, "Starvation Island." Great read on the "canal."

Thanks, Gunns

That was inspired.
Since I write this on 1 November, I shall indeed pour one for intrepid Col. Paige.
And then I shall say a prayer for a much younger leatherneck who's out past the wire as we speak.
