Strange Days

Government can't run squat

We stopped a power grap with a gun at our heads. The creeps that gave us the social policies of Fannie and Freddie need to do a perp walk, soon.

Yeah, well,

I suppose that last thing that our 'enlightened leaders' should do is listen to the will of the people, lol. Or should that be 'dear leaders'?

Perfect, Flag

But don't stop yet. The Senate's going at it again today, and the House tomorrow.

We have to keep the garlic pressed up against this legislative vampire.

Long Time No Argue....

Good afternoon Flag. How ya doin my cons brotha from another mother!!!!

I hope your not still sulking from that embarassing performance of your Cowgurls this past Sunday. Maybe your team thought it was playing a playoff game. With TO b@tchin and Jerry "Michael Jackson" Jones getting fined, things don't look to well in Jerryworld does it? LOL!!!

On your points, I agree with you on a few points. $700 Billion is ALOT of money that we just can't afford right now. Bad behavior on Wall Street is the main culprit behind this mess. Deregulation favored for years by your party has also hastened this collapse. So the question remains what do we do about it.

Fact is that some sort of legislation is needed to shore up our credit markets. If something isn't done soon, Main Street will begin to feel some strong tremors and negative effects. Do I think we wil be in another Great Depression? No. However, the credit crunch will hurt the major of Americans. So Congress has to get some legislation passed ASAP. Hopefully, your party will stop trying to offer dogma solutions (zero capital gains tax, even deeper tax breaks for corporations, less regulation LOL!) and will instead work to fix the problem. Maybe John McCain can suspend his campaign again!!!! LOL!!!!

As for Bush, the man who you voted for 2x is once again proving why he is perhaps the worst POTUS ever. Do you regret your vote?

Also, you state that, "We the People are not some group of dolts who can be easily fooled b calling something by a different name"

I disagree. Many of "We the People" have no notion of basic economics, routinely vote against their economic interests in favor of "affirming social norms", rarely read a newspaper, and elected a dope 2x to be POTUS. Call me "elitist" if you want, but my faith in the collective intelligence of some of my fellow citizens is zero.

As for our fellow American citiz

Pt.2

I am constantly perplexed by many things in this nation Flag that have caused me to "Rethink America."

I cannot for the life of me understand how this current election between Obama & McCain is as close as it is right now. I mean poll numbers are moving in the right direction, but why so late. How can American citizens trust McCain & the GOP to lead this country? How can Americans not realize that the past 8 years of GWB have been terrible for 99.9% of the population? How can some Americans actually buy this BS about McCain being a "maverick" to "change/clean up" a town his party has had control of for over a decade?

Don't get me started on the Sarah Palin fiasco!!! Thankfully due to her recent interviews and the flawless parody of Ms. Tina Fey, I believe Americans are waking up to the fact that Palin is NO WHERE NEAR QUALIFIED TO EVER BE POTUS OR VP. Hell, I don't think she's qualified to be my ANC comissioner!!!

Well, there is my rant for today.

Hope to hear from you soon.

PS: How bout' those Redskins!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost forgot

You said, "Being the good conservative that I am, I watched the news coverage on Fox News"

Just curious,

1)Is being a "good conservative" dependent on watching Fox News? Can you watch MSNBC or CNN and be a "good conservative"? Do you watch MSNBC at all or read the opinion pages of either the NYT or WaPo?

2)Do you really think Fox News is "fair and balanced"?

3)Exactly why are the "Fox news anchorettes" blond? Is the news producer Alfred Hitchcock or something?

I liked the use of the word "travishamockery". Very well done sir.

Phil, Brian, and Oilpatch

No the G isn't really good at much besides creating a new mess, and it amazes me how deftly they have transferred the blame for this particular mess from themselves to Wall Street. And I saw how the Senate is trying to backdoor this so that it doesn't pass constitutional muster; and these are the people who screamed about Ashcroft, Gonzales, and Bush "shredding the Constitution"? I guess the outrage depends on whose "shredder" is doing the work! Typical Beltway mentality!

Ralph

I knew the Cowboys were going to lose the minute I saw Terrence Newman matched up with Santana Moss; Newman thinks he can do what Deion did, but he can't. The only two corners I have ever seen that could look into the backfield, give up a step to the reciever, then still make a play on the ball were Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson (pre-knee injury). Newman thinks he's in that category and he just keeps getting burned for his hubris.

As for my votes for Bush, I regret nothing...except the fact that the GOP couldn't get a more conservative candidate. But I would still deal with Dubya than The Goracle or Jean Francois Kerry. As for deregualtion, it may have played some part in this but the majority of the fault lies in Congress. This mess started with Fannie and Freddie, and it was the Congress that would never do anything to rein them in even when they had hard evidence of malfeasance and chicanery going on there. They spent all their time attacking the regulators or saying that nothing was amiss. Both Parties have their share of the blame for this mess, but you know that if there were one conservative or Republican that could be blamed for this mess the blame would have been handed down.

Also Ralph

i agree that some sort of legislation needs to be passed, but it must be something the American people can swallow...and trying to pass a defeated bill as part of another bill is not going to do. And when I said that "We the People" are not going to be fooled by attempts to switch labels, I stand by that. It is not a matter of understanding the arcane finances involved here, but in understanding that even if you call a crap sandwich "ham and cheese on rye", it's still a crap sandwich!

As for my Fox News comment, that was tongue planted firmly in cheek. I watch Fox News for their straight reporting, but I generally skip Hannity & Colmes and O'Reilly b/c O'Reilly never shuts up, and no one actually debates on H&C. But as for their straight news coverage they are pretty much "Fair and Balanced", but they make no bones about the rightward lean to their commentary and discussion shows.

Flag

Glad to see you predicted a Cowgurls loss. Seems as if you were the only person who though that. No one picked us to beat you gurls. We shocked the world. As for Newman, he is a bum. He's like Fred Smoot in my book. Now, I wished ya boy Roy Williams was out their playing. Lord knows how many touchdowns Jason Campbell would've had. Speaking of that didn't your D- Coordinator Brian Stewart say that "Campbell locks on to 1 receiver". Damn was he wrong!!!!! So Flag, how bout them Redskins!!!!!!

"As for my votes for Bush, I regret nothing."

Your joking right? You would vote for GWB again, knowing all you know now?

"..except the fact that the GOP couldn't get a more conservative candidate"

Like who Flag? Hitler? Pat Buchanan? Pat Robertson? Pick a loon if you want.

"But I would still deal with Dubya than The Goracle or Jean Francois Kerry."

Stop the hatin' Flag. Don't be angry that Gore is a distinguished statesmen and Kerry is a cultured and well traveled person. I'm sure you prefer the idiot/fratboy over the smart kid in class. Figures.

"This mess started with Fannie and Freddie, and it was the Congress that would never do anything to rein them in even when they had hard evidence of malfeasance and chicanery going on there."

I agree. Freddie and Fannie are a big part of the problem. However, you don't buy this BS about the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 being the culprit do you?

Flag pt.2

"They spent all their time attacking the regulators or saying that nothing was amiss."

Well, I beleive we can both agree that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, credit default swaps, hedge funds, and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 are primarily the blame.

"Both Parties have their share of the blame for this mess,"

Yes they do. However, whose been in control of the congress for the majority of the past 2 decades? Who has been the president for the past 8 years? Doesn't GWB have an MBA(which is hilarious!!!!!)

"...but you know that if there were one conservative or Republican that could be blamed for this mess the blame would have been handed down."

Please. I believe that one person has to be Phil Gramm. However, your part is (once again) lying. Those GOPers in the House whose feelings were hurt after Pelosi's speech are happy now. With more corporate tax breaks as well as pork being included in the bill, I'm pretty certain they will change their tune. Such hypocrites!!! When will the American middle class learn that the GOP doesn't care about Main Street!!!!

I await your response!!!!

Hail To The Redskins!!!!

BTW

I thought you would appreciate this my friend. Sing along if you like:

Hail to the Redskins
Hail Vic-tor-y
Braves on the Warpath
Fight for old D.C.
Run or pass and score -- we want a lot more!

Hail to the Redskins
Hail Vic-tor-y
Braves on the Warpath
Fight for old D.C.

What a wonderful song!!!!! Don't you agree? LOL!

Ralph

I don't have time to live in the past or agonoze over past decisions, so no i don't regret my votes for Bush. It's too easy to look at things in hindsight and say what you should have done, but you make the best decisions with the informaion you have on hand at the time. I did that and i don't in the least regret my votes.

And honestly I expect more from you than this nugget: "Like who Flag? Hitler? Pat Buchanan? Pat Robertson? Pick a loon if you want." How in the world does my saying that I would prefer a more conservative candidate than Bush bring out a Hitler reference? But since you brought Hitler into this, he would more likely be an ultra leftist than an ultra-rightist: he believed in squelching free speech (like the liberal love for "speech codes" and "free speech zones" at colleges); he believed in nationalizing industry (ala nationalized health care); he believed in racial separation (ala the Democrats creation and support of Jim Crow); and he believed that the State should reign supreme over the people, much like the Democrats seem to believe.

And how exactly is Phil Gramm responsible for this mess? Did he create Fannie & Freddie? Did he allow the strange accounting practices there that went on? Did he force Fannie & Freddie to make loans to people who were likely not going to be able to pay them back? If he did all of that, then he's responsible...if not, he's no more responsible than the other people he served with in the Senate that allowed this ticking timebomb to explode!

Hey Flag, another TH columnist

bashing Palin, again on something entirely inconsequential. Are the country-clubbers just upset because she might actually be conservative, and the enthusiasm for her (as opposed to oh, I don't know, McCain) is putting pressure on them? Or are they all just trying to help McCain purposefully lose the election? Or is there something else going on here?

http://townhall.com/columnists/SteveChapman/2008/10/02/pali ns_small_town_snobbery?page=full&comments=true

BTW, your comments

about Hitler are very timely, considering what Caday5 posted on Gunny's blog. I think I'll borrow them, if you don't mind.

Philosph

I read that article you linked, and it was pathetic! The blueblooder, country clubbers are upset that Palin is an actual conservative, and not a poser. And they are afraid that if she succeeds conservatism in the GOP may make a comeback and marginalize them. And to spend the time to write an article based on a straw man argument, created after putting words into Gov. Palin's mouth is incredible! What was the point? If it was to say that city dwellers aren't prone to acting like elitist snobs, I think he failed on that score.

As for the Hitler comments, use away! I was honestly surprised when Ralph played the Hitler card, especially since Hitler and Stalin both were Marxist/Fascist in their orientation, which are both the extreme representation of LIBERAL thought.

BTW, feel free to jump in and engage in any conversation going on here. I have noticed that when Ralph shows up people are unwilling to challenge him. Just because he and I are engaged doesn't mean no one else can get involved!

Flag

“I don't have time to live in the past or agonoze over past decisions, so no i don't regret my votes for Bush.”

I understand not agonizing over past decisions. However, the key to life (IMO) is learning from those mistakes and trying your very best to never make them again. Hopefully, you have learned from voting for Bush

“And honestly I expect more from you than this nugget: "Like who Flag? Hitler? Pat Buchanan? Pat Robertson? Pick a loon if you want." How in the world does my saying that I would prefer a more conservative candidate than Bush bring out a Hitler reference?“

It was a joke. I stand guilty as charged. However, who is more conservative than Bush? I’m curious who is your ideal conservative candidate?

Next

“But since you brought Hitler into this, he would more likely be an ultra leftist than an ultra-rightist.”

Honestly, I expect more from you than this Jonah Goldberg, cons propaganda. First off, to most people Hitler's beliefs belong to the extreme far right. For example, most conservatives believe in patriotism and a strong military; carry these beliefs far enough, and you arrive at Hitler's warring nationalism.

Also, let me explain this to you in simpler terms the beliefs of the Nazis:

Individualism over collectivism.
Racism or racial segregation over racial tolerance.
Eugenics over freedom of reproduction. (As the Bush family about that!!!)
Merit over equality.
Competition over cooperation.
Power politics and militarism over pacifism.
One-person rule or self-rule over democracy.
Capitalism over Marxism.
Realism over idealism.
Nationalism over internationalism.
Exclusiveness over inclusiveness.
Meat-eating over vegetarianism.
Gun ownership over gun control
Common sense over theory or science.
Pragmatism over principle.
Religion over secularism

Again, how was Hitler a liberal? (philosophocon you are free to use my answer) LOL!!!

On Phil Gramm

I would implore you to read this article on Phil:

http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2008/07/foreclosure -phil.html

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=5835269

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/0 9/13/AR2008091302638.html

Again, I'm not trying to blame Phil for everything! However, he does have a role in this crisis.

BTW, I have noticed that some posters never engage when we have our little debates. I do find it odd too. As long as they don't "gang up" on me, I am fine with debating more than 1 person. However, I do enjoy debating you Flag. It is never a dull moment.

Also

You said Hitler was a Marxist!!! LOL!!!

According to the universally accepted book "Hitler: A Study in Tyranny" by Alan Bullock (a must read Flag), Book explains that:

"While Hitler's attitude towards liberalism was one of contempt, towards Marxism he showed an implacable hostility… Ignoring the profound differences between Communism and Social Democracy in practice and the bitter hostility between the rival working class parties, he saw in their common ideology the embodiment of all that he detested -- mass democracy and a leveling egalitarianism as opposed to the authoritarian state and the rule of an elite; equality and friendship among peoples as opposed to racial inequality and the domination of the strong; class solidarity versus national unity; internationalism versus nationalism."

Hitler was also quoted as saying about Marxism:

"The German state is gravely attacked by Marxism."

"In the years 1913 and 1914, I… expressed the conviction that the question of the future of the German nation was the question of destroying Marxism."

"In the economic sphere Communism is analogous to democracy in the political sphere."

"Marxism itself systematically plans to hand the world over to the Jews."

"The Jewish doctrine of Marxism rejects the aristocratic principle of Nature and replaces the eternal privilege of power and strength by the mass of numbers and their dead weight."

Ralph

Please don't put words in my mouth...I never said that Hitler was a Marxist. I said that Nazism, Fascism, and Marxism/Communism are all on the left side of the political spectrum. And they are! The left only disavows a Marxist when the full extent of their depravity and savagery becomes widely known, or if they have any alliance with the US. History is replete with the left embracing dictator after dictator, marxist after Marxist, then palming them off on the right when it becomes obvious that they are brutal, inhuman dictators and nothing more.

And the point remains that I expect better of you than to inject Hitler into a conversation as a response to my saying that I would have liked a more conservative candidate than George Bush. I guess that anyoe to the right of Joe Lieberman in your book constitutes the "far right", but every conservative out there knows that GWB is not now, nor has he ever been a conservative. He gets it honestly, since GHWB was a moderate, and that is what GWB is as well. He governed that way in Texas, and he governed that way in Washington.

Flag

"Please don't put words in my mouth"

Wish you would extend the same courtesy to me.

"...I never said that Hitler was a Marxist."

You are quoted as saying, "since Hitler and Stalin both were Marxist/Fascist in their orientation".

"I said that Nazism, Fascism, and Marxism/Communism are all on the left side of the political spectrum. And they are!"

Actually no. Do you want to go through each case point by point? I already destroyed your earlier misnomer about "Hitler/Nazism being leftist". Put down the Jonah Goldberg Flag and pick up the Alan Bullock. Sh@t, I'll even buy it for you!!!

"The left only disavows a Marxist when the full extent of their depravity and savagery becomes widely known,or if they have any alliance with the US."

Really? Do you have any evidence?

"History is replete with the left embracing dictator after dictator, marxist after Marxist, then palming them off on the right when it becomes obvious that they are brutal, inhuman dictators and nothing more."

LMAO!! Shall I bring up Ronnie Reagan's support of men like Augusto Pinochet, the dictator of Chile, the fascistic and anti-Semitic junta of Argentina, Saddam Hussein, the Atlacatl Battalion including the resulting El Mozote massacre, Ferdinand Marco (the Filipino dictator), the contras in Nicaragua (and of course the CIA drug trafficking in urban neighborhoods), and of course apartheid in South Africa. Shall I go on or will you concede the point?

Flag pt.2

"And the point remains that I expect better of you than to inject Hitler into a conversation as a response to my saying that I would have liked a more conservative candidate than George Bush."

Well Flag I expect you to be able to answer a question, concede when you are wrong, and understand a joke. I said it was a joke alright? Now, will you answer my question on that topic? Also, will you put down the talking points and open up your eyes my friend.

"I guess that anyoe to the right of Joe Lieberman in your book constitutes the "far right","

No. Just stupid and incompetent. LOL!

"...but every conservative out there knows that GWB is not now, nor has he ever been a conservative."

Seems like revisionist history to me Flag. What about the OVERWHELMING support of the cons base (including yourself) in 2000 and 2004? How do you explain that Flag? What about all the high cons rating on Bush's voting record by numerous cons organizations? How do you explain this Flag?

Did...

you agree with my last response Flag? No rebuttal???

Wow, I'm in shock.

Ralph

Okay, you made your Hitler comment as a joke...well ha, ha. But somehow that "joke" lost any luster it ever had when every time a liberal is challenged they start calling conservatives "Hitler", "Nazi", or "Fascist". It simply isn't funny, and no matter how you meant it, it simply comes off as an insult and an attempt to smear an opposing viewpoint by associating it with one of the most evil men/regimes in history. But since it was just a "joke", then I guess you'll find it a laugh riot if I called liberals Pol Pot every time I disagreed with them, right? After all, it's just a joke.

As for "revisionist history", we conservatives supported Bush not because he was a movement conservative, but because he was more conservative than the other candidates we had to choose from. Pat Buchannan was too far to the right and came off as an isolationist, John McCain's "maverick" status and love affair with the Demcrats and their media allies still troubles him today, and can you even name another one of the GOP candidates in that race? And when the general election came in 2000 you knew damned well that conservatives were not going to vote for Al Gore; we were sick of Billary and did not want any continuation of that with a President Gore. And in 2004 did you actually think the GOP and the conservative base would turn on W and select John Kerry? My personal votes were not based on any belief that Bush was a movement conservative, but on the fact that in a two man race I felt he was the better alternative.

There's your response.
