Alas, I don't think this is going to turn out the way we would like. Obama needs her hard-left hand steering Congress. He can't let her get ousted or resign. They need each other to complete their nasty little agenda.
On the other hand, I hope there are enough people in the CIA to take this issue to the mat. Unfortunately, they are probably too honorable to do what needs to be done. These folks are in a tricky position as I see it.
Thanx for the post and letting me vent!

I don't know if she's going to survive this one. It's clear the CIA isn't going to be her scapegoat. So if this doesn't go away, she's cooked. She'll loose credibility, the ObamoNation won't want her lowering there polls. She'll be toast. The CIA would release this info rather then look like they were lying and conducting torture and not getting significant results. Obama was already given this intel which is why he stopped the release before. If he had let the release out, he would have looked like an idiot. He doesn't want that. He'll let P-Liar go to the sharks before he lets the CIA release this info.

I was happy when I heard that Panetta put out the memo. What bothered me was certain tv hosts talking about how Panetta did the right thing and that he is a Democrat. Party should not matter. What matter is the security of all Americans, no matter what party.
Now for Pelosi, what a complete potato head she is. Lets attack the CIA. I mean come on...the CIA. What next, the FBI? What a piece of work this woman is. Of course she feels she did nothing wrong. Oh please! I like her mumbo jumbo. She was misunderstood. She was not blaming the CIA, she was blaming the Bush officials. I guess next to blame is Barney the dog.

Do you think the Germans were gonna swim across the English Channel on their horses to invade England?
By the END of the war the Germans were still using WWI bolt-action rifles.
Do you have any clue about economics? The Germans were lacking many, many vital natural resources for their war effort.
Before WWII England and Russia--combined--occupied something like 40% of the Earth's landmass. Germany had around 3%. They had WAY more population and industrial capacity.

Germany
Someone hasn't studied very much history. Yes, the armament production just before the war broke out was increasing for both the UK and USSR, but they were already far behind in quantity, and more importantly quality. The German rifle for most of the war was the Mauser 98, which was roughly equivilent to the Brit's Lee-Enfield and the American Springfield, both of which were used extensively during the war. However, the Germans also had the MG-34 and MG-42, both of which were far superior to anything the allied nations had, along with the Schmeiser machine pistol, and they ended the war with the Sturmgewehr, the first modern assault rifle. Their tanks were far superior to anything the allies put on the battlefield until the Soviet T-34. The Americans and Brits relied on the Sherman, which was a deathtrap against the Tigers, Panthers, and King Tigers.
I haven't even touched upon their training, surperior generals, the Luftwaffe, or the unterseebooten, which almost put England out of the war even though Hitler started the war before even 1/3 of the planned u-boats were ready.
Thank you for playing our game. We have nice parting gifts for you on your way out the door. Don't let it hit you in the arse too hard.

Crawfish & Jim, SOME of the German army
was equipped w/decent arms, but the VAST MAJORITY of it (80%) were foot soldiers supplied by HORSE WAGONS...!!!
A 19TH CENTURY HORSE ARMY!!!
The Germans LOST the Battle Of Britain, and afterwards were no longer a real threat to England. Period. Fact. Undeniable. The English proceeded to bomb German cities into rubble afterwards. The Germans HAD NO long-range heavy bombers, and their one-way rocket had zero strategic effect on England.
The Germans made a fatal strategic mistake: they invaded Russia! This, more than anything, sealed their fate. Once the Russian winter hit, the German Army was toast--esp. being as how it WASN'T EVEN EQUIPPED FOR WINTER FIGHTING.
Germany had a SEVERE lack of essential wartime raw materials which hindered it greatly. It was FAR MORE DIFFICULT for them to replace material losses.
As w/material, Germany was drawing on a FAR SMALLER population base, making it harder for them to replace lost soldiers.
Much of their manpower was tied up w/occupation duty.
Their U-Boat warfare was an advantage early on, but eventually the sorties became short-lived sucide missions. Again, remember that once they lost U-Boats (and, more importantly the hard-to-replace crews), it was extremely hard to replace them.
You and Jim make the same mistake that all amateur armchair generals do: putting way too much emphasis on "strategy", while ignoring the far more important logistical/economic details.

And Jim: As for the Mosin Nagant, those old M44's can be had cheap these days, ($100 or so) and are just a bunch of fun to play with. They also, unlike the M1891, have the fixed, folding cruciform bayonet. It is just about impossible to hurt the rifle as it is as simple as they get and built like a brick latrine. I can drag that thing around and never worry about whether or not it is going to perform. It also makes me feel younger, since it is three years older (1946) than I am.

It is necessary because it tells the real story of British prime minister Neville Chamberlain’s "appeasement" of Hitler at Munich. Because the Sudeten Germans in Czechoslovakia – a multiethnic, multilingual, multicultural, Catholic-Protestant conglomerate that had never before existed – "hated the Prague regime and had no loyalty to a nation where they were second-class citizens" (there were more Germans in Czechoslovakia than Slovaks), Chamberlain, correctly, and not alone, "did not believe that maintaining Czech rule over three million unhappy Germans was worth a war."

It is necessary because it shows that the greatest blunder in British history was not Munich, but the Polish war guarantee that committed Britain to fight for a Polish dictatorship that had considered making a preemptive strike against Germany, signed, like Stalin, a nonaggression pact with Hitler, and joined in the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia after the Munich Agreement. Here Buchanan is not alone. Lloyd George considered it "a frightful gamble" and "sheer madness." Former First Lord of the Admiralty Cooper recorded in his diary: "Never before in our history have we left in the hands of one of the smaller powers the decision whether or not Britain goes to war." It was "the maddest single action this country has ever taken," said a member of Parliament. I have written about this foolish Polish war guarantee here.

Among his other crimes, Churchill appeased Stalin – one of the twentieth century’s greatest mass murderers, whose crimes exceeded those of Hitler – by agreeing to his "annexation of the Baltic republics," accepting "his plunder from the devil’s pact with Hitler," and turning "a blind eye to the Katyn massacre."

It is necessary because it explains how Hitler never wanted war with Britain. Hitler wanted absolute power in Germany. Hitler wanted to overturn the Versailles Treaty. Hitler wanted to restore lands to Germany. Hitler wanted to enlarge the German empire to the east. Hitler wanted to cleanse Germany of Jews. Hitler wanted to destroy Bolshevism. Hitler wanted Germany to achieve economic self-sufficiency in Europe. Hitler wanted to go down in history as "the greatest German of them all." But Hitler never wanted war with Britain. To Hitler: "Great Britain was Germany’s natural ally and the nation and empire he most admired. He did not covet British colonies. He did not want or seek a fleet to rival the Royal Navy. He did not wish to bring down the British Empire. He was prepared to appease Britain to make her a friend of Germany."

It is necessary because it confirms that Hitler was not a threat to the United States. The German Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain to the Royal Air Force; the German Navy was no match for Britain’s Royal Navy ("The Navy – what need have we of that?," said Hitler in 1936). At the start of the war, Germany had only two battleships. The Bismarck had not been built yet – and it would be sunk on its maiden voyage. There were no troopships, landing barges, or transports for tanks and artillery. If Hitler could not cross the English Channel and conquer Great Britain, how could he possibly have been a threat to America? Buchanan dismisses Germany’s supposed plans "to build a massive surface fleet, develop a trans-atlantic bomber, and procure naval bases" as "comic-book history." The historical truth is that "there are no known German plans to acquire the thousand ships needed to convey and convoy such an army and its artillery, tanks, planes, guns, munitions, equipment, fuel, and food across the Atlantic." And as Buchanan points out about German bombers: "A trip over the Atlantic and back would require twenty hours of flying to drop a five-ton load on New York." And if even today the U.S. Air Force doesn’t have a bomber that can fly round trip from the Midwest to Germany without refueling, how could German bombers in the 1940s have possibly bombed the United States and returned to Germany when air-to-air fueling had not yet been invented?

Was it necessary that tens of millions were slaughtered to prevent Hitler from slaughtering millions?
Certainly not.
But don’t take Pat Buchanan’s word for it when we have the word of Churchill himself:
One day President Roosevelt told me that he was asking publicly for suggestions about what the war should be called. I said at once, "The Unnecessary War." There never was a war more easy to stop than that which has just wrecked what was left of the world from the previous struggle.
And if World War II was unnecessary, then how much more unnecessary are the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War – buy it, read it, digest it, and refer to it often. And the next time someone tries to justify some U.S. military intervention by appealing to the "Good War," ask him what was so good about it.

Wow, I'm not either, you see Phil, I'm not a welfare bum. I run a company and go out of town frequently on business so I can create the wealth to support people like you. But, no I'm not responding to your stupidity. So 99% of experts agree with my side and 1% with your side. Only an idiot would defend such a position and only a fool would argue with that idiot. Argue with yourself....
