Comment on: Behind Enemy Lines

McCain / Leiberman

I doubt Leiberman

That would ensure that most conservatives didn't vote at all. JC Watts? That'd help with the black vote and the conservative vote.

That may be

BUT, John Mc Can't is to Conservatism as Ralph Nader is to Libertarianism - I hope thats a word, if it isn't it needs to be.

Interesting bio...

..welcome to the vast right-wing.

Thanks, JC

Like an African immigrant who remembers from where he came, and who chose his new country and became a foremost among proud Americans, I am now foremost among proud registered Republicans.

Having been a Democrat and a liberal one at that, I had the luxury of never having to honestly question my ideology. I owe a deep debt of gratitude to Larry Elder for helping to remove the scales from my eyes and take a loooong hard look at my positions.

Even more interesting...

...I have heard others give Mr. Elder credit for their change of perspective. That's fine and dandy for someone to give You a roadmap, but it's only potential.

It takes an incredible amount of strength of Character to question One's foundation and be willing to turn away from those ideas They thought They always knew and be willing to follow the map; especially if that Person is mired in a liberal culture.

Perhaps of JC Watts were to convert?

Picking up on Crawfish's point. And thinking of Jack Warden in While You Were Sleeping.

Still, I don't know that Lieberman's position on the ticket would completely rule out a vote for McCain. My recollection is that there is still a pretty wide gulf between my views and Sen. Lieberman on many issues, but on the necessity of victory, I think we're on the same page.

McCain / Keyes

Didn't Obama beat Keyes for that Senate seat in Illinois?

Thing about Keyes is he's too honest. He's got a golden conservative conscience that he won't sell out for politics, and that makes him a man who won't play word games..... and he would turn off quite a few voters.

sigh...... It sucks when the list of candidates sinks down through mediocre to...to... to...what's below that?

Perhaps They're Engaged

Yes, I've seen McCain's fascination with Lieberman. Lieberman is an OK guy, even though he was ManBearPig's running mate in '00.

I don't think McCain would snatch certain defeat from the approaching jaws of victory by putting Joe L. on the ticket.

It would make sense for McCain to pick a running mate who is to his right.

In a way, Obama has helped open the door for black politicians, so that solid black leaders are likely to be considered by both parties for all posts.

I've never been averse to a black politician, and conservative blacks don't get enough of the spotlight.

Recalling how some damned Obama early on, a black Republican VP candidate would face a horde shrieking that s/he isn't black enough, or s/he'll be a Tom, or s/he'd be a traitor.

That would be a horrible spectacle but if s/he could brave that heat, I think it would work.

J.C. Watts is an interesting pick. Having "Julius Caesar" riding shotgun might spook some, especially if someone named "Brutus" were appointed to the McCain Cabinet. (;

What would be the sentiment for Michael Steele of MD, or Lynn Swann of PA?

Sorry about that...

I hit "Post" before I finished editing, but you get the point....

PDX Dave

Like JC commented I applaud your ability to look at your ideology and make such a radical change. That does take a lot of introspection and I'm quite impressed. Like I said on your other article, I'm glad you have come over to my blog because you make some very good and interesting points.

Somewhat like you I was more on the liberal side in my early years. But, I saw the fallacy in that and changed too into a right wing radical. Not really radical, but far from what the liberal mentality is today.

I would love to see Michael Steel on the ticket. I'm really impressed with him.

Alan Keyes I like too, but he is so honest he'd never win anyone over. Is that not a shame? You can't be totally honest to be a politician. People want to hear nonsense and promises that never come to fruition.

I don't know about Lieberman. I certainly respect the man's courage to stand up for what he believes in and even get mangled by his own party to do it. I don't agree with his other liberal issues, but I sure do respect the man for standing up on the WOT.

I wouldn't doubt it

After all, McCain needs Joe to refresh his memory about where AQ is and isn't! Anyone see that on the news. Pretty funny.

Plus the older McCain gets, the more to the left he wanders. And since John loves to pi** off conseratives, a move like that seems right up his ally.

1maschrom - 3 Stooges Eye Poke

With one VP nomination (Senator Lieberman), McCain can poke the Democrats AND the conservatives in the eye.

Cue 3 stooges music.......

Still in all, I wouldn't wake up screaming in terror in the middle of the night if Joe were a heartbeat from the presidency. We could do so much worse.
