GunnyG, I was a resident in DC during the Marion Barry years. What a hoot. He must have set back positive race relations 20 years as he exhibited every canard thrown at black folks, except possibly getting his picture on the front page of the Washington Post eating a slice of watermelon.

My husband made a very good point yesterday. Our government schools are terrible. We spend more money on them than any other country in the world and yet our students test well below many other countries. If the government does such a lousy job running schools, what makes anyone think they will do a good job running a healthcare system for over 300 million people?

As I've said MANY MANY times before, they do the SAME thing, expecting a DIFFERENT result, and are surprised when they get the SAME result as a million times before.

You forget. It's not about providing the best healthcare, just like public schooling is not about providing the best possible education for our kids. If that were true, then Liberals would be more than willing to support a school voucher program.

Simply put, it's about power. Healthcare is nothing more than another attempt to get more people on the Government dole. The more peole that rely on the Government, the more power that is consolidated.

Liberals rely primarily on hammering their belief system into young minds to gain voters. As long as they can convince people that living off of Government handouts is a good thing, then they gain voters. If they had to rely on Conservative's main source of new voters... Procreation... then, just like the Shaker religion, Liberal ideals would have slowly died off. Instead, Liberals are very proactive about utilizing their 13+ years of indoctrination training.

Since you people seem to enjoy pointing out the how government can't be trusted to run health care because they screw everything up, why don't you point to the military as an example of governmental failure? Sorry kids, you can't have it both ways.

If we got rid of many of the Congressionally mandated things we put up with, we could get a lot more done in less time, with fewer people, and less expensively.

Like the Crawfish said, no one ever tried claiming that the Military was a model of efficiency, but in a free society the SOLE purpose of Government is to protect its citizens from foreign and domestic threats to their safety.

IT IS NOT THE JOB OF THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE FOR PEOPLE!!! Nor is it the job of the Government to protect people from themselves... at least not in a FREE society. And if you haven't noticed, the more a Government tries to do, the less efficiently it does the jobs that it was originally designed to do. The more the government tries to play "Robin Hood" with the evil, corrupt small-business Corporations, the less efficiently it is able to do everything else.
