In Defense of Father Pfleger

I appreciate the heads up on this essay over at my blog, but in all honesty I've always had a hard time generating much interest in any of these various church scandals, be it Catholic priest-pedophiles, the Wright-Obama furor, McCain ticking off the fundamentalists, or this particular Pflegler thing. Compounding that, I've never even heard of this guy. But once again, I don't pay much attention to this stuff anyway.

I don't blame you on that and respect your opinion. I think we are in strong agreement that what church a person goes to, if a person doesn't goes to church at all, etc doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I'm more concerned about a candidate's policy rather than his/her piety.

Personally, I felt compelled to defend Father Mike. I think he got alot of unfair treatment. He really is a good guy.

Like you, it's policy and actions that count, not church affiliation, or -- especially -- the guilt by association of being judged by what a third-party cleric said.

I do think it's great you're stepping up for the guy when you think it's the right thing to do, though. It's just that for me, these things don't resonate, and I don't even know the players or issues in this case.
