Although I agree with your sentiments completely I do dispute your interpetation of the US Constitution:

The Second Amendment (much to the dismay of Free gun owning citizens such as myself) DOES NOT actually give you a "Right" to own and carry firearms. What it does do, is restrict the Federal government from enacting any laws that would fetter the right of citizens to own and carry firearms- not that has stopped them. And most states in the union have a state constitutional right enumerated which protects the citizen's right to own firearms (Oregon is among them, but it is a common misunderstanding that the US Constitution grants or restricts citizens rights. That power is reserved for the states, not that anyone for a hundred years has followed the federalist or dual federalist ideals set down by the founders.
