You said it brother! I can't help but wonder, though, how much of the world is going to be destroyed before we put an end to it. We're already hearing about the food fights going on around the world. Saw a headline today that said America might start rationing food. Hey, we're a nation of spoiled rotten brats and that ain't gonna happen without bloodshed.
It is my own personal belief that the global warming/climate change "crisis" will be over right around the time our useless elected officials realize that bankrupting this country and its people is not conducive to re-election.
Love what you said and how you said it.

Global warming is a hoax.
I can't express that sentiment any more plainly.
I agree.
I am glad to have a name for the kooks, the gwdc. Sometimes I may throw Gore's name in front and call it the ggwdc.

so your supporting data is...
Hi Rich
I debated many months ago on Dave's blog with you about global warming. I mentioned at the time that my uncle, a planetary geologist at the U of Arizona, was publishing a book on global climate change(GCC). I even managed to get him on Dave's show in Feb of this year. Did you hear it by any chance? I would really like you to read his book, because although I rarely agree with you, I feel that you are a realist and will examine facts objectively. Heck, I'll even buy a copy and ship it to you.
I'm curious, just where exactly are you getting your data? It all seems pretty general and anecdotal. Do you have some links? Here are some questions KI have for you:
Does it in any way bother you that of all the peer-reviewed published studies on global warming, not one disputes that it is 1) happening and 2)is partially or mostly caused by human activity?
Do you dispute that the earth is warming (whether man made or not)?
The European countries don't treat GCC as a theory. They don't view it as an if. They view it as fact because they are the first area to be directly affected, and are focusing their efforts on changing their whole way of generating power. Why do this if its a hoax?
Why do the Pentagon, many of the major power utilities, Shell Oil, and many other huge corporations see it as a man made crisis?

Answers to questions
As for your questions, here are my answers
No, it doesn't bother me because "peer-reviewed" simply means that another scientist is looking at the data and going "works for me". No additional research is done. No validation of methodology. No testing of computer models. This is the Gospel to these scientists and they are not interested in doing anything that might jeopardize their funding, like scrutanizing the work of others.
Yes, I dispute the percieved rise in temperature. NOAA took ice cores and found that the earth's temperature has risen only 3 degrees in 4000 years. The mini-ice age ended about 1850. there are also reports that world temperature actually peaked in 1983 or so and we are on a downward trend. But even if global warming is real. Where's the harm? Warmer temps mean longer growing seasons, which will help to fight this world food crisis the GWDC and eco-communists have foisted on us. Warmer temperatures require less energy than colder climes to maintain life, which will help abate this energy crunch we are in. Less home heating oil and natural gas in the winter, which will make it all more affordable.
The europeans are idiots, that's why.
the big corporations are demonized enough, so why add to it by fighting th GWDC. They are getting ahead of the curve to prevent the eco-communists in congress from legislating the dollars. This way they control where the money goes. This is an investment into future product lines that will turn a profit for them one day. And it's good PR. The legislation point applies to the military as well. Also, the military has always been a source of innovation. Finding the technology to take the military off of fossil fuels will only help them in the long run.

okay fair enough
but I'll ask again - where are you getting your data?. And, as rebuttal to your answers:
1) so, scientists aren't qualified to review other scientists? Is it some vast conspiracy among scientists. Who is qualified to analyze the data? You and me ? I don't have a degree in climatology or any other science. Do you?
2) have you looked at pictures of glaciers in the rockies, cascades, alps, andes? If their is no global temp increase, whats causing that? Same with arctic sea ice? Also, I read noaa's findings to be 3 degrees in the last 150 years. again, source?
3)The europeans are idiots. Wow, thats insightful. Sources?
4)Or is it possible they know something you dont?

Answer my questions for a change
Rob: Before I answer any more of your banalities, try answering my questions first.
1. Since carbon dioxide makes up less only .03% of the atmosphere, what is it about CO2 that this little amount can change the entire environment the way you describe?
2. Since plants inhale CO2 as part of photosynthesis, exactly how much CO2 is pulled out of the atmosphere per tree? Does that amount change by species?
3. How many trees are on the planet?
4. Do grasses, shrubs, bushes, weeds, etc pull CO2 out of the atmosphere? (of course they do) By how much?
5. If it will take 400 million years to double the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, is the earth's ecosystem so fragile that the current rates of CO2 production will change the environment enough to cause noticeable, scientifically provable damage?
6. Rainfall cools the earth. How much rainfall fell on earth as an aggregate last year? Last month? Yesterday?
7. Since you don't know exactly how much rainfall fell to cool the earth at any given moment, how can computer models properly capture the cooling effects of rain?
One question I will answer, but I will have to answer with a question of my own: Which photos of melting glaciers? The real ones of them getting thicker or the doctored one with polar bears on them?
You can even ask your planetary geologist uncle for help. By the way, I edited my original post to add all of the sources you asked for.

Rob,
I remeber a time when to reduce stress you were going to stop blogging! I think this is sound policy!
Go back to your hemp sandles and patulli oil and ravi Shankar 8 tracks and leave the important stuff to those of that actually make sense.
Now...
If you want to "off" yourself to reduce your flippin carbon footprint we all think that is a mighty fine idea and support you fully!
Do you want us to bury you on 1971 Volvo wagon or just have it bronzed in honor of your stuipidity?
Let's us know!

trying not to be too banal retentive
1)First off, carbon dioxide is not the only greenhouse gas. (Actually water vapor is the primary greenhouse gas.) Why is such a small increase in co2 such a problem? Because we're causing an imbalance in the equilibrium state - we're producing so much and at such a rate that the ability of the earths ecosystems to adapt and change to sequester that co2 is overwhelmed. Its a complex system, but its also a very delicate system - I mean what we're doing is releasing carbon from many of the worlds carbon 'sinks' at a rate that doesn't allow any compensatory reaction from the earth to take place quickly enough. the primary carbon sinks are plants and the ocean. Rising ocean temperatures are weakening the oceans ability to soak up co2. And massive deforestation, coupled with much of the burning of said forests, increases the effect.
2,3,4)well, let me put it this way, land plants take up about 220 billion metric tons of co2, oceans about 330 billion metric tons. That 550 billion tons is about 20-30% of human generated emissions. I don't really see why you need to know how many trees, what types take up more, etc...you need to look at the system as a whole.

banal retentive part 2
5) see, the thing is, you don't need to go anywhere near DOUBLING the amount of co2, just increasing it minutely increases the ability of the atmosphere to trap heat. And yes, its already happening - permafrost in much of the arctic is melting (which will release more co2 from decaying tundra. The sitka spruce forests in alaska are dying because of higher annual temperatures. Ocean levels are currently rising due to polar and glacial melting
6)rainfall does cool the earth, but only locally or regionally. It does not cool the atmosphere as a whole. Are you maybe confusing this with global dimming? this is the process where aerosols and other vapors have the effect of reflecting sunlight back, causing a small cooling effect, but an overall negative effect as they trap the heat that does get through
7) see above.
glacier photos - see glacier natl park; athabasca glacier in canada, qori kalis glacier, peru; muir carrol and mccarty glaciers, alaska; mt kilimanjaro, africa. Also , look at satellite photos of the arctic and the north pole ice caps. I don't need to ask for help, Rich, I can do my own research. BTW, of the sources you site, are any of those actually based on science? Wikipedia? the Nat'l Mining Assoc? They don't seem that credible or unbiased.
Okay, I answered your questions. Can you answer this question? Why are you opposed to reading other viewpoints? Why are you basing your position on something other than hard science?

tool time
Hi Jerry
Its nice to see that you can still make your make your point without resorting to name calling or character assassination. And your spelling and grammar are as stellar as always! I actually enjoy blogging again, especially when I can participate in such lively, adult conversation! Oh, and just so to slightly correct your assumptions:
I wear merrel work boots, as I'm on my feet
approx. 12 hours a day. I own a design/build company specializing in Kitchen and Bath remodels. Just so you can understand, Jer, Kitchens are where mommy makes the treats, and bathrooms are where you can make poopy! Oh, sorry, I forgot. Well, someday Jer. You keep tryin though, lil champ!
Cant stand patchouli - I prefer the smell of sweat after a good long workday! Probably something you cant relate to.
Ravi Shankar 8 tracks! Thats a good one! I actually listen to a broad variety of music. Right now I'm rediscovering old country music - hank williams, ernest tubb, buck owens - now thats music. They just don't write or sing like that anymore!
Wow Jerry, are you actually advocating I commit suicide? That's not very Christian! Maybe you should talk to your Pastor about your anger problems.
No Volvo wagon here - I'm a truck man. Ford f250 pickup, although I'm looking at a dodge sprinter van, what with gas prices. Hey, what happened to all that cheap oil that bush and cheney promised? Almost forgot about that!
You want to honor my 'stuipidity'. I think your sentence speaks for itself.
Really nice chattin with you again Jer! Lets do this again real soon!
