Maudie. Good concise writing and thinkin

I do hope you are of the "traditional newspapering" heritage. You have the credentials.

Are you of the old "rim" grudges or did you work a beat? Please don't tell me you wrote "features."

I love Michelle Malkin, too. She could have worked at the old Fort Worth Press. For that matter, you have the skill to be of that crew that spawned so many good writers.

You probably would enjoy the story of Mary Crutcher, one of the best city editors and certainly the prettiest. She existed in the now legendary 50's. This is story out of Damon Runyon or maybe even Shakespeare. You see one of The Press's editors, one Delbert Willis, had come back from the war with incurable wounds. Mary loved him and he needed her desperately just get through the day and night; but in those days, great newspaper women simulated steel spines and kept a stiff upper lip. They wrote, spoke and cussed with an economy and dignity that would not be appreciated today.

I could go on forever about Mary. But suffice it to say that you would have enjoyed working with her. Oh! In those days no one assumed that men and women "just got together." And everyone was discreet about such things. So no one knew with any degree of certainty just what was actually happening between Mary and Delbert; but the speculation was nothing short of Nobel character. Whatever it was we need more of it in the 21st Century.

If you are not a product of a cop shop beat, you should have been.

Your post is appreciated.

Happy Trails.
