the speech was near great
and very smart. He moved to the middle big time and gave nods to conservative ideals. Maverick has put the climate crap in the effin' platform his own self so that's that I guess. As for the fuel, everyone knows we have to get off of oil as soon as possible anyway. Hate to argue with you my good friend, but Kennedy told them boys to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade and by gum we did. See what a Prez can do when he's not hiding in the Office like W?

Eliminate Petroleum??
How are we going to make all those nifty plastic hotel card keys then? Use wood?
How will we manufacture our big plasma TV's with which to worship the Golden Child every night?
Are our free gov't doctors going to start using syringes made out of glass?
Oh, and Edison was a whole @zz who was just in it for the money, and didn't care that his DC system was largely unworkable, as long as he got the contracts.

I'm shocked! Nods are all it takes? Going to the moon and converting the entire petroleum economy to non-petroleum are two very different things. He's his brother's keeper is he? Did you see the story about his brother living in the slums of Nairobi? I guess he just means that we all have no individual existence but are just here to make things fair. So the country is going to allow my house price to rise but not let it fall? That's the middle to you? Nationalizing health care? Middle? i lived in England in the 70s. i see the Dems about to institute here what the Labor Party did there and believe me you won't think it's the middle when you're living it. NEITHER of these candidates are anywhere near the middle but McCain is closer to sanity.

Thanks for the short version, Skep
I'm not sure there is a fair comparison between the space program and the elimination of petroleum. First off we didn't have to replace 100 million space vehicles in the process. But I will leave that discussion for another day.
In the end, the Obama media team, sometimes referred to as the MSM, will paint the speech as second only to the Sermon on the Mount so the content was really irrelevant.
Thankfully they ran out of over the hill party hacks to speak. I am supremely happy that it is finally over.

hey, immunity
some piece i read noted that viewers may be building up "obama immunity," meaning you can only be wowed by the same thing (i.e., great speech) so many times.
i mean it. i've developed a HUGE, healthy dose of "obama immunity." and it's the same string of complaints every time. a party of whiners.

There was a lot more. I think he stole one of Hillary Clinton's speeches. I had no idea that the last eight years were such a horrible nightmare. Moaning and groaning. There was no tag line in it, "Reach For A Green Tomorrow!" or something like that. I think Obama's shift to the 'middle' has destroyed his authenticity. Meanwhile Grandpa is turning out to be a scrapper. This Palin thing caught them with their pants down. To bad she didn't run in the primaries. Oh well. I wonder if the library has a good biography of William Henry Harrison I could check out?

I love that one. Sounds like a power to the people sort of novel..."Thomas Edison takes on Big Kerosene"...or maybe Henry Ford takes on the Big Horse Lobby.

hey, waitasecond, obama is from the city of big shoulders.
but obama's shoulders are actually quite narrow. he's a very tapered guy.
is this an attack on the big shoulders lobby by big narrow shoulders? probably.
the dems stop at nothing.
it's all tragic.

Laura Ingraham had a similar take on Obama's speech. She pointed to the lack of a "big line" and characterized the speech as a throw away.
Are you planning a piece on Ole' Tippecanoe? The famous "Native American" fighter? (i just wanted see if that PC crap looked as funny in print as it sounded in my head) It's going to be a short book if it only deals with his presidency.
His birthplace is just north of here and at Berkeley Plantation. IMO, the finest of the restored James River plantations.
The Harrison's were well known to every Virginia school kid up until the educational reformation.
The WOWD threw the messiah a curve ball with Palin, and it was a swing and a miss. He already had to apologize. LOL!

Of course Harrison caught his fatal disease during 'The Little Ice Age' which ended around 1850. The 'Little Ice Age', the Late Medieval Warming, the much cooler period in The Dark Ages and the much warmer temperatures during the time of the Roman Empire make you think of that crackpot Algore's 'hockey stick' model of climatic history featured in 'An Inaccurate Truth'.

When a Prez takes control and actually leads we can get some things done. Let's see the eunichs in the other party do something about it. No one likes a weakling. I'll sit here and hold my breath while I wait for the Stupid Party to get it together.
My disclaimer: I'll never vote Democrat.

I know. You react the way you react. McLame certainly is short on inspiration and the Republicans are truly wandering in circles. In 'Old King Log' I even pondered voting, and supporting Obama because McLame will do the same things and have the disastrous results blamed on 'conservative policies'. but a genuine 'move to the middle?' I dont believe a word of it, however nicely put.
