Comment on: What's Right

Kentuckyfornia?

IL

is right behind KY. We impeached Bluggo, and the Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn wants to raise the state income tax by 50%. We have a bi-partisan coolition that is opposing the move and is trying to put budget cuts on the table. Granted some of the, well most of the problems were due to bluggo's corruption, but that means we really need to look a lot harder at budget cuts rather than tax increases. Already, a lot of industry is fleeing. This would just add to it.

Thanks for stopping by and for the comments.

The spending is simply unsustainable. They will either realize this and adjust or get voted out. Simple as that. I was happy to see the various props get voted down in CA.

I smell a Reagan-style tax revolt coming on. Keep your fingers crossed!

I so hope you're rigjht

that we have a (nationwide)tax revolt. I am encouraged by California's turnout to say "no". If the bluest state in the country can come to their senses, maybe others will follow suit. We can always hope.

Good post Sgt.

My worst fear

is that mr. bailout POTOTUS will bail out CA, NY, NJ, etc. Instead of making them accountable for their spending waste. Montana, Texas, and other such states that ARE fiscally responsible, shouldn't have to pay for these blue states.

Bobbie

Thanks for stopping and commenting.

Personally, I've had enough of hope.

Interestingly, I thought about tying in the fact that so many blue states were a financial mess, but there's just as many red states in a bind.

Profligate spending knows no party.

Time for some real change!!

MD/MG

Your fears are well founded.
Can you "redistribution"?

Coming soon to a state near you.

Mexifornia

Can slash the budget shortfall and gain a surplus in six months by doing only one tiny thing:
Every illegal invader out of the state in two months or less.
That includes all the anchor babies to go with them (wouldn't want to separate a family ya know)

boaz

That would be a large chunk, to be sure.

Instead, they are getting an exodus of capital and a brain drain. Oh, well, as long as the a*shat politicians get paid, no matter.

Thanks for dropping by, buddy.

Mornings are difficult

But I can usually redistribution by around noon. After that I just fume and post. ;-}

MD/MG

Typo on my part, should've said "can you say redistribution" but I think its funnier with your comment!

Redistribution

Reminds me of Mr. MDMG and my wedding terms. What's mine is mine, what's yours is mine, too.

Just kidding. He's a very good man, and I'm proud to be his wife. Marriage is very, very good to us.

md/mg

I think Boaz's comment would work here in Colorado as well. I'm wondering when they'll try to tax CO2 emissions from pop cans?

Eric,Boaz

IL hasn't exactly taken a backseat to CA,CO. We have our own Mexico/North. We have a few other notable items, too. Bluggo, Chicago, thuggery, etc.

We can also look forward to something new and different. Seems we may be getting a Kennedy for US senate. Chris, son of RFK. He works at the family-owned Chicago property, the Merchandise Mart. Just when we thought it may be safe to go back into the senate. As one exits, there's another to take his 'place'.

deep sigh.

MD/MG

those durn Kennedy's, there's one under every rock it seems.

MD/MG, Boaz

We dodged a bullet with Caroline not getting foisted on the Senate. I hope IL fares as well.

In the meantime, look for the state bailouts to begin shortly. The march to socialism is quickening...

Eric

If the country could drop 12-20 million from the rolls of the uninsured, just how bad would the healthcare problem really be? I know the education budgets from most every state could be cut dramatically if ESL programs could be cut. Scores would improve overall. Oh, and the police budgets? I guarantee these 3 areas, when illegals are taken out of the mix, would put most states back in the black with no problem.

sgt. stryker

I will just say that I live in the sad state of CA. And we are sad. Boo! Hoo! At least those propositions did not pass the other day. But I would not say that voter turn out was that spectcular. I thought it would be more. But in CA, we vote for something and it passes, then some group comes along and off to the courts it goes, and hey, it is over turned.

I can't believe Kentucky. What the heck happened?

Sue

thanks for stopping by, long time no see!!

Yeah, that will be the next shoe to drop, the crazy 9th circuit will get their hands on the results and overturn. I feel your pain, sister.

We were doing ok here, but profligate spending always catches up to you. Always.

We are watching CA and the Fed with baited breath. I see some bailout money headed that way.

Wonder how long it'll be before..

...the moonshiners start firing up those stil's. Also, don't they grow a lot of tobacco there in KY? This is the sort of thing you'll start seeing in all states. When the taxes get too high, ingenious folks will figure out how to circumvent them. Interesting piece, Sgt. And very telling. DD

Darvin

Yes, we grow a lof tobacco, but the amount has dropped and the crazy gubmint actually subsidizes folks not to grow it. The crap really hit the fan when they raised taxes on cigs, I look for a lot more people to quit.
I could do with a little shine about now.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Kentuckifornia

When I first saw the word, I thought you were going to insult California, then came the delightful twist that you are insulting Kentucky.

Bwaaaaa Haaaa.

You caught me thinking like a lefty. Thanks for knocking me out of it.

Think of it from the President's

perspective, sgt.stryker. When he says -- and he WILL -- "California is way too big to fail," what he's actually thinking is, "California is way too cool to not OWN."

New York ditto. New Jersey Ditto. Illinois for the homer? Ditto. Michigan? Ditto, though he'll sell Detroit -- on the cheap -- to Windsor, Canada. Kentuckyfornia? Horse squeeze.

This'll all be fun for us folks here in Tennessee. We'll "volunteer" to pick up the tab for all of this federalizing. Following the states into bankruptcy will be NYC, Newark (NJ), Detroit (but that'll then be Canada's problem), Chicago, Philly, LA . . .

Sgt. Stryker

Great post. The numbers do not lie (unlike the politicians). I have to say I was somewhat taken aback. I think of Kentucky as a bastion of independence. Sorta’ like I used to think about VA. Can’t tell you what a rude awakening this was. Well as the old saying goes, ‘read and learn.’

Thanx for the great read, Sgt. Stryker.

SGT.

Go to my newest post sgt. Ca. is in such a mess that the Messiah is threatening to bail it out. So what happens to NY or Kent or Ill or any state which goes belly up? And what Consti. right does he or Timmy the Tax Cheat have in doing so? None. But, the public goes merrily on. Stop by.

The Libs won't admit it

They don't care. Jennifer Granholm in Michigan reacted to the spiraling economy by.......RAISING TAXES...as unemployment skyrocketed, the economy tanked and the auto industry plummeted towards failure. So what happens to HER? She's on the short list for nominee for the Supreme Court. Liberals only want control.

Noam

Thanks for stopping by, glad I could be of service. We'll have no more of that thinkin like a lefty business.

Mrs.AL

Glad you approve. I aim to please....

dr.pete

More than likely, your assessment will be borne out. Nationalizing industry, federalizing states, it's all the same to barry.

Thanks for stopping and commenting!

Unfortunately, most of the sheep have no clue about what the constitution says. As long as American Idol and the Real Housewifes of (Name the city) are on, they're happy as pigs in doo-doo. Not sure how to wake them up...but it will be too late when and if they finally do.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for stopping by and for the prescient comment.

Eff up and move up. That's the new status quo. Granholm is a great example. It also explains Bawney Fwank, Charlie Rangel,Timmy Geightner and Joe Biden...there is blood shooting out of my eyes and ears.

"Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state lives at the expense of everyone" Frederic Bastiat

Great quote! Great blog and great thread, Sgt.Stryker! More and more Americans, thanks to the TEA parties, are saying, No More! California rocked! So what if the turnout was low! Pay attention! Americans need to be aware of school initiatives and municipal bond drives. If you don`t vote, you can`t hctib.

dawndawn

Thanks for stopping and for the compliment on the quote. I love Bastiat's work. He was really on top of what our Founding Father's were putting out there, and he paved the way for Hayek and Friedman.

You're correct, all politics are local,and if you don't vote,you can't complain.

Similarly, if you voted for a narcissistic poseur, you should apologize to the rest of us...

Just Want To Say

A very special thank you for your service to our country, Sgt.Stryker! Duty, honor and country are no small words to men such as you. I know there are so many here at TH who have served and protected our nation. Thank you, so much, this Memorial Day and every day!

dawndawn

Thanks for remembering. I had a friend who was a SEAL, he made the comment that he wouldn't give a nickel to do it again, but he wouldn't take a million bucks for the experience. Most all of us would do what it takes, but most all of us would rather not have to.
Hope you have a great weekend!!

You know that based on history

whenever a tax is imposed on a "sin" item, folks ease off of the "sin" and consequently the taxes don't rise to the forecast level. That requires raising some other tax to cover the shortfall of the sin tax.

If I thought they were smarter, I'd wonder if the left wasn't pulling a political fleaflicker. Knowing full well that the new tax (on pop, sugar, etc.) would reduce consumption creating a shortfall which would "justify" a new tax to cover the deficit. Seriously, they can't be that smart, can they?

Garnet

Thanks for stopping and for the excellent comments.

I don't know what to believe about this crew. One thing is for sure, they don't learn their lessons. Seems like they just keep trying to use tired old ideas that never worked in the past. To answer your question, no, I don't think they are that smart. But nothing they do surprises me at this point. They will luck into getting what they want.

it seems

that taxing is the way many states(and our govt)are tring to get out of dept--but there is a saying:you just cannot tax your way to prosparity!

Patriot 76

Sorry for the late reply to your comment, TH not sending emails to inform bloggers about comments for some reason. I'm sure it's some sort of "intermittent" problem that they are doing their best to repair.

You are correct, higher taxes seem to be the only solution the best and brightest we have in government can come up with. That's unfortunate, to say the least. They really need to look at the other side of the ledger and cut spending first.

Thanks for dropping by and for your comments.

Sgt S

I HOPE we rise up in righteous anger over being taxed like this.

Check my blog for the gouge on a VAT!

Thanks for stopping by and for your comments.

I believe what you are asking for is already happening by default. Revenues are down in nearly every state and locality as well as to the fed due to people basically "going Galt", either due to lack of income or based on fear of the future. Savings are up substantially.

One message to the government-"Spend THIS!"
