The Persecution Of Christians: What Can We Do About It?

Reply: Persecution of Christians

John, it is a blessing meeting you on Townhall. I feel a real kinship with you, and hope we can get to know one another better -- and begin to meld a Christian, conservative network of Americans who care about America. We have much in common. As a matter of fact almost everything, except: You're from Colorado and I'm from Carolina. That's no problem. I am so gratified to have the opportunity to have intelligent discourse with outstanding citizens like yourself. God bless, you, friend. I am now retired to the North Carolina coast, where my wife and I settled into an 1871 Italinate house that our eldest son restored for us. We like old things. That's quite fortunate in that we are both old. My media experience was in television, where I met and was befriended by the late Jesse Helms. He became my dear friend and mentor, and forged by commitment to conservatism. I won't bore you with more bio details, as I have probably exceeded the 2,000-character limit of this comment. God bless you, Verne Strickland.

What a great Christian conservative

statement you've made, J.M. Persecution has begun here in our USA. Not like they know in the other parts of the world you named, but it's coming; especially if we continue to sit still and do nothing. I don't care one bit about the world's approval, but I care very much about the hyenas in our society spitting in Jesus' face. We have become a perpetual Good Friday Society with throngs of the ungrateful abusing Him who has given them everything.

Great post, Mr Powers. Stop by my place. You're invited to join our TH Bloggers contact list of Christian conservatives. We'd love to have you. We can use all the stron Christian voices we can muster. C'mon over. (:-

Out ot get us

As a former pastor and teacher, I know of what you write John. It is secularism and a slow drip of the end of our civil rights and the Ist Amendment. It is easy to make fun of Elmer Gantry's. It is easy to make fun of pederist priests. I was stunned to see Verne's note about Jesse. I wrote him about some legislation though I was from Ca. Made some good points and by crackey he wrote a personal letter back , gave me some pointers , asked about my church et al. A great American. He ,like so many of oldsters know that the system and culture we loved and admired are under attack by spiritual as well as secular socialist pacifist forces and world views. If one saw Glenn Beck's program or heard a priest on Bill O program a few days ago, one can see all forms and levels of Christian ideology and stances are under attack and even if the trends that Celente and Santelli come true, Christians must stick together against the dark or as Franklin wrote, we will surely hang alone, separ. et cet. Drop by and make some comments John, Verne.

That is to get us. A little ADH , huh?

See backward spelling from the ole rac.

Know that Christ is Near.

It means Christ is at the door...We all need to be closer than we've ever been to God. And do the best we can in communicating to all those that are willing to listen how the events taking place right now are all fulfillment of prophecy.

Thanx so very much for the reminders. It is easy to get side-tracked from time to time. Two thoughts came to mind as I read your insightful piece:

First, I recognize that non-believers are blind to the Truth. Therefore, there is always a part of me that feels for one who is so blind. I was at one time myself.

Second, as the persecution gets worse so does the number of people who are saved through faith in Christ. The more difficult things become, the more people seek.

I am very impressed that you differentiated between our spirtual and civil obligations. We live in this world and do have civil obligations. Sometimes it is hard for us to navigate these two and you layed it out well.

Thanx again.
