Thanks for a soul searching article!
We all need to be reminded of the peace and grace of God!
Never cease in doing good Curtal Friar - these are trying times and we need to be reminded constantly of the good things humans do.
We are tested and tried but God is always by our side.

Brother Friar:
Thank you for your post on my favorite hymn and the addition of verses 5 and 6 of which I have never heard. I am reminded of Paul's admonition to us, "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. God bless you brother.

May I also add my thanks
for bringing this powerful hymn to everyone's attention. It is one of my favorites, especially when you know the story behind it. The truth is always more powerful. This political season is one that I truly believe we need to seek God's wisdom rather than what our passion or desires are. I enjoy reading your comments, they are usually very well thought out. Thanks.

Thanks for this & "Honor Our Heroes"
Thank you for both articles.
I was fortunate to see the Navy Blue Angels perform at an airshow over the weekend while on a beach trip with the family. It was great fun to see some of our nation's finest young men & women, especially after remembering D-Day on Friday. I was in the Navy from 1987-93, and got a SMALL glimpse of the huge sacrifices my father's generation bore. (He was a B-17 bomber pilot in WWII. He was shot down and spent time as a POW in Germany)
Thank God for examples like Horatio Spafford and our D-Day heroes. God is good!

We do need constant reminders of God's grace and of the heroes among us.
There will always be tragedy and there will always be evil, and we need to be ever ready to stand strong through the hard times and oppose the evil.
Stories of heroes give us examples of how to make it through the tough times and be victorious.

I got to see the Blue Angels at an air show in New Orleans back around 1983. It was truly impressive.
God bless you, and thanks for your comments.
This was not the easiest story to write; I revised it many times and threw out several different versions.
Still, it was worth it.
Glad you liked it.

Dearest Sir;
I thank you ever so much for the story behind the hymn I've been singing all my life. I knew the year it was written and figured it had something to do with God's faith acting in someone's life, as the title and lyrics seem to be such. I now know the complete story and intend to present it to my congregation. I will read your piece word for word and give you the credit as is dutifully yours. I hope this is to your approval.
Another of my top favorite hymns is "The Lord Has Been So Good To Me". It was my mother's favorite and she asked me to sing it while on her deathbed. When I finished, she was gone and a smile was on her lips. I cherish that moment.
My "mantra" or "code", as it were, for life has always been Paul's answer to his prison guards as to how he could sing and preach while in prison. He said something to the effect, "Whatever situation that I find myself in, with the blessings and the grace of God, therewith to be content."
If Paul, in prison and condemned to death, can be content with God's blessed love and have faith in that, so much more so myself with the luxury and freedoms of His purpose and our nation.
Thank you again for your effort at granting my request, thank you very much.
Your Brother in Christ,
Glenn Flowers
