It Is Well With My Soul

Thanks Curtal Friar

This is my favorite hymn, and I have always loved the story behind it. Thanks for the reminder, and for your boldness in proclaiming our Lord.

God Bless.

Mrs. Paddy

God bless you, and thank you for stopping by.

It is Well With My Soul!

Thanks for a soul searching article!

We all need to be reminded of the peace and grace of God!

Never cease in doing good Curtal Friar - these are trying times and we need to be reminded constantly of the good things humans do.

We are tested and tried but God is always by our side.

It is Well With My Soul

Brother Friar:
Thank you for your post on my favorite hymn and the addition of verses 5 and 6 of which I have never heard. I am reminded of Paul's admonition to us, "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. God bless you brother.

May I also add my thanks

for bringing this powerful hymn to everyone's attention. It is one of my favorites, especially when you know the story behind it. The truth is always more powerful. This political season is one that I truly believe we need to seek God's wisdom rather than what our passion or desires are. I enjoy reading your comments, they are usually very well thought out. Thanks.

I Love This Hymn

But I didn't know its history. Thanks CF!

A Reminder Who Is In Control

Thanks for this.It is also my favorite hymn,in part because of the history.

My favorite rendition of the song is by Wintley Phipps. He is a black man from Trinidad,I believe.Deep voice.Just beautiful. You can listen to it on youtube.I have a cd with several songs, including It Is Well With My Soul.

Thank you for your help in keeping us on the 'right'track.

Thanks for this & "Honor Our Heroes"

Thank you for both articles.

I was fortunate to see the Navy Blue Angels perform at an airshow over the weekend while on a beach trip with the family. It was great fun to see some of our nation's finest young men & women, especially after remembering D-Day on Friday. I was in the Navy from 1987-93, and got a SMALL glimpse of the huge sacrifices my father's generation bore. (He was a B-17 bomber pilot in WWII. He was shot down and spent time as a POW in Germany)

Thank God for examples like Horatio Spafford and our D-Day heroes. God is good!
:-)

We do need constant reminders of God's grace and of the heroes among us.

There will always be tragedy and there will always be evil, and we need to be ever ready to stand strong through the hard times and oppose the evil.

Stories of heroes give us examples of how to make it through the tough times and be victorious.

Thanks for your comments, and thanks for stopping by.

This has always been one of my favorite inspirational stories.

God bless you and have a great day.

Gray Ghost

Thanks for your comments and thanks for the suggestions for reading material about the Alamo.

I will definitely have to check them out.

God bless you and have a great day.

Rowly

God bless you and thanks for your comments.

There are many such stories that illustrate God's grace and the strength he can provide to get us through the hard times.

Al

I got to see the Blue Angels at an air show in New Orleans back around 1983. It was truly impressive.

God bless you, and thanks for your comments.

This was not the easiest story to write; I revised it many times and threw out several different versions.

Still, it was worth it.

Glad you liked it.

Curtal, this is one

of my favorite hymns and I had heard the story behind it, but needed to be reminded. Thanks for the opportunity to reflect on God's grace.

God Bless you and yours!

Dearest Sir;

I thank you ever so much for the story behind the hymn I've been singing all my life. I knew the year it was written and figured it had something to do with God's faith acting in someone's life, as the title and lyrics seem to be such. I now know the complete story and intend to present it to my congregation. I will read your piece word for word and give you the credit as is dutifully yours. I hope this is to your approval.

Another of my top favorite hymns is "The Lord Has Been So Good To Me". It was my mother's favorite and she asked me to sing it while on her deathbed. When I finished, she was gone and a smile was on her lips. I cherish that moment.

My "mantra" or "code", as it were, for life has always been Paul's answer to his prison guards as to how he could sing and preach while in prison. He said something to the effect, "Whatever situation that I find myself in, with the blessings and the grace of God, therewith to be content."

If Paul, in prison and condemned to death, can be content with God's blessed love and have faith in that, so much more so myself with the luxury and freedoms of His purpose and our nation.

Thank you again for your effort at granting my request, thank you very much.

Your Brother in Christ,
Glenn Flowers

glnflwrs

You're very welcome.

I hope your congregation enjoys the story.

God bless you and have a great day.

Farmer's Wife

FW, glad you liked the story.

As I've told others here, this story has always been of my favorite inspirational ones.

God bless you and have a great day.

Thank you, sir.

I would like to thank you for the story. It is a reminder that God provides strength to us all, not just in the afterlife, but here and now, if we just let Him.

Thank you.

Chatroom??? What chatroom?????

Thanks for the link to Wintley Phipps rendition of this song on Youtube! Wow. Still wiping tears away.

God Bless!

It is well with my soul, also ...

This is my most favorite hymn, one that was read aloud at our daughter'e memorial service. I have loved it since my childhood. And, thanks for the story, one I know, and now have printed off for safekeeping. Thank you, Curtal Friar, for your wonderful blogs.

Friar...Help me here

Didn't one of Longstreet's compadre's have a similar story
Or was it one of Washington's men...

Edna

Good question, and I honestly don't know.

I haven't heard another story like this one.

If you find it out, though, I would be interested in reading it, if you find a link or a source.

I just love this old Hymn

and the story behind it is good to read anew every now and then. Reminds us that we haven't cornered the market on pain when we read about him. I'm glad to make your acquaintence Mr. Friar. Great Post.
