I agree something big happened. It would almost have to be nuclear related but why the silence? I suppose Isreal would stiffle it to avoid arousing the arabs in the area. The US would stiffle to avoid appearing to be the war monger. But you'd think SOMEONE somewhere would have an accurate report. It almost sounds like N. Korea was dumping their weapons material to avoid sanctions.Gee,ya think that's where Saddams stuff went? I don't think we've heard the last of this....

and Syria
would NEVER publicly admit to having any nuke mterial unless they had an arsenal of at least 10 bombs ready to go and dispersed so Israel couldn't hit 'em all, but ready to launch if Israel went after them.
The Dims won't publicly make this an issue, since it would strengthen the GOP's hand on national security and the defense of Israel.
The GOP won't publicly make this an issue because of the failure to find large quantities of WMDs in Iraq. The left would go nuts saying the right is crying "wolf" again...Bush lied, people died...we can't trust the eeeeevil GOP...they're manipulating the intel again...etc.
Like the place, Ghost. You'll get added to the roll over at The Swamp.

Silence
is the key component. Why would Syria be silent when struck by Israel? Why would other Arab states be silent about the Israeli strike? Why would European and other nations be silent? Why would the liberals be silent?
My conclusion is that the Syrians were stopped from completing a major project similar to the Osirak strike in the 80s. If anyone were to comment, then the real information was "leaked", probably by the Israelis, then the affect on world politics would be enormous not to mention our little upcoming election season.

Thanks for this post! The dearth of information on this incident is curious. It must be hot (or maybe even even a hot zone) if the Syrians and Iranians are quiet about it, otherwise we'd have seen a bombed out "Baby Milk" factory with a half dozen dead babies (Quality Control Testers?) thrown in for good measure.
Keep digging, GG. Great job!

The silence is deafening! All of my usual sites are keeping quiet; so something "really big" occurred.
I'll keep looking.

Speaking of Silence
Perhaps the IDF was taking a pro-active response to this little tidbit:
Zionist regime's allies to receive response on World Qods Day
Tehran, Sept 19, IRNA
Iran-US-Spokesman
Supporters of the Zionist regime will receive their response during the world Qods Day's rallies, government spokesman, Gholam-Hossein Elham, said Wednesday.
The spokesman made the remarks during his weekly press conference while commenting on the current visit to the occupied Palestine of the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Qods Day is held each year on the last Friday of Muslims fasting month of Ramadan after it was nominated by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, as a day to voice the protest of the Islamic Ummah against the Zionists.
The day falls on October 12 this year.
"The US loses all opportunities to cooperate with regional and other world states by trying to support a regime (the Zionist regime) which is now at its weakest political and social position," Elham said.
He warned that Washington's insistence on its wrong policies and arrogant approaches would have no result "but further political disgrace" for itself.
Referring to the approaching World Qods Day, the spokesman stressed, "Supporters of the Zionist regime will definitely receive the final response for their support on that day."

Thanks for this post. I just saw your part 2 and was working 2 jobs from mid August to mid February so missed this when it happened. I was an Arabic Linguist from 1996-2002, and stating the obvious here, Syria is not our friend or even neutral. I am all for letting Israel do what they must to deal with this threat. If Obama wins, expect Israel to be preemtively striking at Iran, maybe even if he doesn't.
