New Age Energy

Ethanol Is Disaster

Like it or not we need oil to keep the economy humming. Corn pone politics, polar bears and mother earth chants seem to make some feel less guilt about their easy lives, but it won't run the factories.

bio-refineries

1 ton trash, 20 hours electricity for a small village. The US Army bought two from University of Indiana (I believe) and is sending them to Iraq. Each one fits in a shipping container.

hey, waitasecond...

are you in for the million redneck march or what? this article isn't very conciliatory towards our redneck brothers and sisters. you're saying they're bird murderers? skep41, i am ashamed of you! you'll never make it into the redneck training compound, or the highrise. for me, though, there's still some...

The quick fix

The biggest single step congress could take to rollback energy prices, lower CO2 emmissions, and save billions would be to simply cease mandating ethanol. That miserable excuse for a fuel additive is eating my gas tank even as I write this comment.

It is a tribute to socialism and a clear demonstration of the consequences of a rush to judgment when government comes up with a fix that "goes south" as quickly as this one has. Now we have a whole new crop of scientists, without portfolio, who are intent on, "doing something just in case" which is a fine strategy if it's limited to, "should we take a extra bottle of advil on vacation".

When the extra bottle of advil costs 40 trillion dollars it's a different story.

Dont Worry Sarge

The extra bottle of Advil wont cost $40 trillion until the third or fourth year of Obama's first term so you have time to save up for it. The amazing thing is that EVERY time the government interferes in markets with magic solutions something like this happens. Its like a law of political physics. Why are we the only people who see it? Its like Orwell's '1984', people dont remember even the immediate past, they make decisions without any context at all.

But...

That's the Highrise of my dreams! I only meant that granola eaters in an earth frenzy were more homicidal than crazy rednecks, who, lets face it, like to shoot at stuff. If you're inside the beltway you must be as urban as I am. To connect with renecks I have to go visit my family.

Dave

There are lots of ways to go with this. Why are they so hung up on the one way that is causing a disaster?

oilpatch

It would seem that what you're saying is so obvious that there wouldnt be any debate about it. But shockingly, the people who know that simple truth are in the minority. The anti-oil people, which is to say the people who want us to live in poverty with no cars, are in the driver's seat and the lemmings who vote on the basis of watching the local news and seeing campaign commercials are going along with it.

Follow the money.....and IMO, man kind is heading for a die-off to cull the herd. Radical population adjustment is in order. Either we take care of the problem or mother nature will do it for us.

Skep, DCat

It is already starting. All of green twists and turns are producing results. People are already starting to starve. Whoopee! Lots more Darfur's for the libs to get excited about. Who knows? When we up the ethanol ante to 20% we could wipe Africa. I suppose that's one answer to AIDS.

Sarge

Well. My post tomorrow is going to be my What I Did For Earth Day extravaganza!

Looking forward to it
