Comes Down To Control
Excellent essay. Water is far more valuable than oil. People can walk, but they must have water to drink and to grow crops. This is a despicable act on the part of the government, for smelt? The California valley has been the breadbasket for our nation and it is frightening to be powerless and watch the farming industry reduced to dust, which will be to all of our detriment when the grocery shelves and produce departments are empty. It can happen. Go to the nearest mall and count the closed storefronts and once thriving food court.
I am from the NW and remember back in the late 60s/early 70s when the logging industry was decimated to save the spotted owl. Just a few years ago, another larger owl appeared in the NW forests and did away with little spotty. Survival of the Fittest. A bigger fish will eventually come to devour that tiny smelt. Don`t mess with Mother Nature.

Impatient environmentalists
Glad liked it. Thanks for reminding me about the spotted owl and the logging industry-had forgotten about that. You are so right about nature. If we just leave our grubby little paws out of her business, Mother Nature usually fixes her own problems. The trouble with these crazed environmentalist types is that they don't have any patience-they can't see the bigger picture. They get it into their heads that the Earth needs saving and this gives them a reason to play God and demand discipleship of everyone around them! It is indeed all about power and control!!
