Why I Became A Conservative

So glad to hear you have finally found peace in fly-over country. Your blog resonated with me. I, too, am a conservative in a home full of falling-off-the-edge-of-the-earth liberals. My husband and son become positively vicious when I try to dispute their firmly-held worldview. We have agreed not to discuss politics in our home, lest we cease to have a home, because THEY cannot have a reasoned discussion of the issues. I can calmly listen to a differing point of view, but they cannot. I have to keep my opinions to myself, and gather my news online, because someone has blocked the Fox News Channel from our TV.

I suspect what you will find as you travel this vast continent in between New York, Washington, DC and the Left Coast is that there are far more people who are sympathetic to your worldview. We didn't lose our minds in 2008 - we just didn't see a whole lot of difference between Obama and John McCain. At least Obama wasn't PRETENDING to be a conservative...

I believe it comes down to the issue of fairness. When family members freely spout their views yet censor any that don't conform - something is out of kilter.
I don't ask anything from my family except that they accept me as I am. They don't. Personally, that is unacceptable to me.
