I ride the bicycle near our church
And at times, I envision being given "last rites" because there are so many accidents but on that same street, I once saw a cyclist late at night buzz right through the stop-light and his nighttime bike had no lights or red light on back. The drivers honked at his gross misconduct. I'm overcautious in all I do, on the bike, running or whatever. Better to err on the side of caution.

How to Solve the Lawsuit Problem
Loser pays, loser pays, loser pays. Any questions?

Adults and children sharing the road
When adults and minor children are sharing the road it is ALWAYS the adult's responsibility to make way for the child. I.e., when driving through a 25 mph neighborhood it legally behooves drivers to take responsibility for any children around----seen and unseen. I learned this rule when a high school friend of mine hit a young boy who, literally, ran out of a bowling alley and straight into her car. My friend was driving below the speed limit and never had a chance to see him but it was still her fault and she was successfully sued by the boy's parents because their son ran into her car. If anything, the girl in this case could have sued the bicyclist for running her down.
