Consolation for Conservatives

Conservatives shouldn't pretend the Supreme Court decision on Obamacare isn't a victory for the President.

It is, but it's a victory in a battle, not the war. To win that war—to block the implementation of sweeping legislation that would damage the Republic—Republicans and Obamacare opponents should shift strategy, not abandon their goals.

Before the decision, we argued that Obamacare was ill-advised and unconstitutional. Now we know it's Constitutional—because the justices decide that issue under our system.

But it's still ill-advised. And it’s not too late to stop it, since the most significant aspects of Obamacare won’t take effect till 2014 or later.

We’re still fighting to prevent a destructive mistake, not to undo it. The Court decision means voters will make the final decision, not unelected justices. If we make the right arguments, the voters will decide correctly.
