DOES A GREAT NATION REQUIRE BIG GOVERNMENT?

In a new twist, liberals appeal to America’s patriotic instincts by suggesting that national greatness requires big, expensive government. In a commercial for the left-leaning network MSNBC, Rachel Maddow poses before Hoover Dam, saying, “When people tell us, ‘No, no, no, we’re not gonna build it. No, no, no, America doesn’t have any greatness in its future. America has small things in its future….You’re wrong!” Actually, she’s wrong to suggest that past achievements depended on big government. Yes, military achievements required federal leadership, but most of the development of the country and the establishment of prosperous cities, productive farms and powerful industries came from private entrepreneurs and inventors seeking profit. In fact, the crushing tax and regulatory burdens imposed by federal bureaucracy will undermined such greatness in the future, unless we roll-back excessive reliance on Uncle Sam.
