REAL CLASS WAR: BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR

Liberals regularly attack Republicans as the party of the wealthy, with Bob Herbert of the New York Times writing: “The fundamental mission of the GOP is to shovel ever more money to those who are already rich.”

Actually, Republicans want to take less money, not more, out of the private economy to “shovel” to anyone, rich or poor. The answer to class war rhetoric is highlighting real divisions between the people and the powerful—not rich vs. poor, but government vs. private sector.

Washington D.C. has boomed while the rest of America withers; government hiring and salaries skyrocket while private businesses tighten their belts. Republicans should answer Herbert and colleagues by characterizing “the fundamental mission of Democrats” as “shoveling ever more money from those who actually earned it, to bureaucrats and politicians who seize wealth, rather than creating it.”
