With raging debate over President Obama’s alleged radicalism one thing’s sure: he is at heart a leveler who wants to erase distinctions. When it comes to transcending racial or economic barriers, many Americans applaud these efforts, but they rightly recoil at Obama’s insistence on blurring dividing lines between good and evil, friend and foe, the productive and wasteful. His administration wants to prosecute our own counter-terror interrogators, while giving terrorists themselves more merciful treatment. He wants to put new tax burdens on our most dynamic, prosperous businesses and individuals, while providing endless breaks and bailouts for those who fail. In foreign policy, he bitterly criticizes Israel, a principal bulwark against Islamic extremism, while pushing for new concessions to Palestinian and Syrian fanatics. Moral relativism, and confusion between the decent and diabolical, damages America and the president’s credibility.
