Conservatives in Congress and media make a huge mistake when they accuse the President of the United States of deliberately damaging the U.S. economy. This theme—suggesting that Mr. Obama wants to destroy prosperity to make people more dependent and to implement a radical agenda—discredits serious conservative arguments.

Every politician wants prosperity because that’s the only path to popularity. A wrecked economy always equals a wrecked presidency—and it’s ridiculous even to suggest that Obama is on a political suicide mission to destroy capitalism. Even FDR lost a staggering 80 seats in the House in 1938 after suffering a sharp economic downturn in the midst of the New Deal.

The public may learn that Obama is misguided and inept but they’ll never buy the idea that he’s a deliberate destroyer who cares nothing about his own future or reputation.
