A RISING POLITICAL STAR DELIVERS REAGANESQUE ZINGERS

Republicans have been starved for leadership, so it’s exciting when a rising political star delivers a rousing address full of Reaganesque zingers. The two-term governor said, “It appears that President Obama is making great progress on climate change. He’s changing the political climate back to Republican….He went around the country last fall promising change we can believe in. But now we see it’s about changing what we believe in.” Concerning education: “Our system in the United States isn’t cash for clunkers, it’s cash for flunkers. It’s a disgrace that anyone is forced to go to a bad school.” The speaker was Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, who delivered his forceful remarks to GOPAC without notes and without a teleprompter. He deserves more attention as an increasingly plausible alternative to a failing president named Barack Obama.
