Video: Clinton Delegate Elaborates On How Democrats Will Ban Guns

Okay—maybe elaborate is a bit of a stretch. The plan is simple: elect more Democrats. That’s pretty much what Mary Bayer, an alternate delegate for Hillary Clinton told a journalist with James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas (PV).

“How do we ban guns? What do we have to do?” asked the PV writer.

“I don’t know. It’s hard because the country is split, you know? And all the money, the big money is with the NRA…well you know how you do it. You got to get Democrats in office. That really is…you got to get enough people in there to vote the right way,” Bayer said. “You got to say you want common sense gun legislation,” she added.

Bayer then said that you just can’t take extreme positions, like saying you want to ban guns outright. You need to frame it as a gun safety issue that will also protect children’s lives. She also said that Clinton’s prevarication on offering a definite position on some issues, like the Second Amendment, could be used to her advantage in pushing her gun control agenda. Asked whether she thought Clinton supported banning guns, Bayer obviously agreed. But added that this won’t be successful unless more Democrats are elected.

Yet, we all know Clinton is anti-gun. She said that the Supreme Court got D.C. v Heller wrong, a key ruling stating a citizen’s individual right to own firearms that’s not connected with service to a militia. For now, Americans have the right to own guns for self-defense. That could change if Clinton becomes the next president of the United States. After all, we’re talking about a woman who supports Australian-style gun control—which are anti-gun policies grounded in confiscation and bans. Policies that have led to a violent black market in Australia, and could be exported here if Clinton gets her way.

Given that Clinton has been less than truthful in her positions on trade, helping coal miners, gay marriage, and her entire narrative over her private email system—you just can’t trust her. On the Second Amendment, she’s certainly not to be trusted.

During her acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention she did utter the magic words [emphasis mine]:

I'm not here to repeal the 2nd Amendment. I'm not here to take away your guns.

I just don't want you to be shot by someone who shouldn't have a gun in the first place. We should be working with responsible gun owners to pass common-sense reforms and keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and all others who would do us harm. For decades, people have said this issue was too hard to solve and the politics were too hot to touch. But I ask you: how can we just stand by and do nothing? You heard, you saw, family members of people killed by gun violence.

You heard, you saw, family members of police officers killed in the line of duty because they were outgunned by criminals. I refuse to believe we can't find common ground here. We have to heal the divides in our country. Not just on guns. But on race. Immigration. And more.

First of all, any Second Amendment supporter should not walk, but run away from that negotiating table regarding Clinton and gun rights. Bayer isn’t a Clinton insider, but her interaction with PV shows us what Democrats want to do with one of our oldest and most vital civil rights in the country. Common sense gun control, gun safety, and the think about the children mentality are admittedly all things that poll well with voters. It does provide a foundation for Democrats to build on the most pernicious aspects of their anti-gun agenda, like a national registry. I mean, that’s common sense right? Banning semi-automatic rifles that looks scary, limiting magazine sizes, instituting background checks for ammunition, and only being allowed to buy one gun a month—that’s all common sense right? No. It’s crating more obstacles for Americans to exercise their gun rights. It’s an endless road that could lead to bans because only the police and the military should own firearms, right? That’s common sense. You give Democrats an inch and they take many, many miles—and we cannot afford to play that game with them on this issue.

The only silver lining right now is that this argument shouldn’t gain much traction with Clinton as the Democratic standard bearer because she’s totally dishonest. At the same time, Mr. Trump has a history of supporting Democratic policies on gun control, but he said he’s since changed—and nabbed the NRA’s endorsement at their annual meeting in May. Yeah, it’s a roll of the dice, but we all know what Clinton would do on gun rights. That’s the decision all Second Amendment supporters have to make. All of this gets back to the universal truth that elections matter, and that we have to all be vigilant when it comes to our freedoms. Right now, the enemy is at the gates.

The video also hilariously shows PV writers trying to get staffers for Hill Democrats to show their support by displaying homemade gun-free zone signs at their offices and residences.

“I guess, is it something that you would like to put in your apartment or home?” asked a PV journalist to James Lee, communications director for Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA).

“I’m actually a gun owner,” he says.

Lee’s chief counsel said that he would put the PV sign proudly showing that they’re gun-free outside of the congresswoman’s office, but refused to take one home with him.
