An amendment submitted by Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley requiring the security of the Nation's borders before granting amnesty to more than 11 million illegal immigrants, has been voted down by the Senate Judiciary Committee 6-12. Every Democrat on the Committee voted against the amendment.
Purpose: To prohibit the granting of registered provisional immigrant status until the Secretary has maintained effective control of the borders for 6 months and to apply border security strategies to all border sectors.
Gang of Eight Republican Sens. Jeff Flake and Lindsey Graham sit on the Committee and voted against the amendment. Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer, also Gang of Eight and Committee members, voted against the amendment.
