As I've written before, the gun control zealots just don't know what the hell they're talking about, but in this case, I can't help but think President Obama knows what he's talking about but is willing to lie in order to push a political agenda. During a speech at a DCCC fundraiser, in the same place where he made his "bitter clingers" comments five years ago, Obama pushed for more gun control in the name of the children. In the process, he falsely misled the country (as many gun grabbers do) about the type of firearms we need to get under control. He referred to the weapon used by Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza as a fully-automatic weapon when in fact, it was semi-automatic.
Now, over the next couple of months, we’ve got a couple of issues: gun control. (Applause.) I just came from Denver, where the issue of gun violence is something that has haunted families for way too long, and it is possible for us to create common-sense gun safety measures that respect the traditions of gun ownership in this country and hunters and sportsmen, but also make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon -- by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly.
Just as a reminder, fully automatic guns have been heavily regulated since the 1930s. I'm sure if President Obama "misspoke," Jay Carney will be sure to let us know.
As Allahpundit pointed out in his post over at HotAir, Obama was sure to stress that the opponents of his gun control push are "ginning up fear" about gun confiscation among gun owners yet was more than happy to "gin up fear" about automatic weapons to push his agenda.
