President Obama signed the fiscal cliff deal via auto-pen late last night from Hawaii, because afterall, he couldn't just stay in Washington an extra day to do it in person.

In a statement, the White House said officials received the bill from Capitol Hill on Wednesday afternoon, Washington time.

"A copy was delivered to the President for review," the White House statement said. "He then directed the bill be signed by auto pen."

Now it's onto the next financial crisis, something that has become normal under President Obama's leadership.

The White House and a divided Congress can now move on to the next fiscal crisis after a last-minute deal to avert the "fiscal cliff" laid the foundation for more combustible struggles over taxes, spending and debt in the next few months.

President Obama's victory on taxes this week was the second, grudging round of a piecemeal battle in as many years over mountainous U.S. deficits.
