Actor Ben Affleck has never been shy about expressing his political views. In the past, he's hinted at making a run for a U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts and now that Senator John Kerry will be leaving his position to head up the State Department, it seems Affleck may be seriously considering taking his place.

Ben Affleck is not denying rumors that he could run for Senate in Massachusetts if Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) steps down.

“One never knows," he told CBS anchor Bob Schieffer, in a taped interview for Sunday's episode of "Face the Nation."

The "Argo" actor-director refused to speculate on the possibility, but did fan the flames of rumor.

"I’m not going to get into speculation about my political future," he said. “I do have a great fondness and admiration for the political process in this country."

According to CBS Boston's Jon Keller, Affleck, a native of Cambridge, Mass., could be qualified to run.

If he goes for it, Affleck may face a challenge from Ted Kennedy Jr. who also plans to run.

A family friend says Ted Kennedy Jr., son of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, is seriously considering running for senate if John Kerry vacates the seat to become the next secretary of state.

Affleck may also see a challenge from current Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, who lost his seat to Elizabeth Warren in November.
