The Republican National Convention has officially convened.
“It is my privilege to proclaim the 2012 Republican National Convention in session and called to order,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said. “We want to draw your attention to the unprecedented fiscal recklessness of the Obama administration.”
Two national debt clocks have been installed in the Tampa Bay Times Arena. One clock is above the stage, the other is mounted on the side. After Priebus struck the gavel to officially kick things off, convention goers bowed their heads in prayer. After a short video featuring GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, excited delegates cheered and left the floor. Between the time Priebus announced the start of the convention and the delegates left the floor, less than 10 minutes, $15,115, 278 was added to the national debt.
The national debt is expected to hit $16 trillion next Thursday.
