The "proposals" were nine pages long and, with a cover page and a back page, with four pages about how un American the Democrats are, leaving about three pages of actual text. Even during the SOTU speech all they had were blank pieces of paper that they waved around as if they had a plan. You're smarter than that.

You say that Obama wants to "alter fundamentally the nature of the U.S. political system." Could you not say the same of cutting taxes on the rich and privatizing Social Security, as Bush wanted to do?

Look at every bill that obama and the dems have rammed through while accusing the republicans of not having any ideas. For every single bill there is a republican bill which addresses the problem.
It's time for the media to report honestly. No one believes Obama anymore so lying with him only discredits the press.

For one, The GOP has not one official named Rush Limbaugh. What they dictate as their policy comes from within their GOP leadership and not from a radio talk show host who merely comments upon events at the political level! William uses some colorful language to make, what at base, are common-sense conclusions. I would summarize them as follows: (1) the GOP base,aided and abetted by the likes of Limbaugh, has gone rather nutty of late; (2) the nuttiness places an obstacle in the path of drawing support from the moderate center; and (3) simply opposing Obama is not enough - forward-looking ideas are needed.

So, do those challenging observations draw thoughtful responses? First out of the gate is Arch with a typical Townhall rebuttal: "Here we have a ranting of an imbecile on display for all to read!"

This is just more hyperbole to whip up the base.

The government is always going to intervene when companies that are "too big to fail" hold the economy hostage, or the economy is going to be far worse off and the party in power is going to take a major electoral hit.

After witnessing how Republicans governed, you will forgive me if I doubt your sincerity that you would not have intervened on behalf of GM if it meant a choice between your principles vs. letting tens of thousands (possibly hundreds of thousands) suppliers, part makers, dealers, and various support personnel hitting the rolls of the unemployed and looking to take out their vengeance on the party that failed to help them.
