The Senate is expected to tackle a "jobs bill" this month, which is could sic the American people with billions in more debt.
The "Jobs for Main Street Act" costs $174 billion, and is referred to by Republicans as the "son of the stimulus," which cost $787 billion without any bipartisan support whatsoever. AmeriCorps, construction jobs, summer jobs for teens, and parks workers would get a boost. The rest of us would be stuck with the bill. From Rep. Jerry Lewis, (R-Calif.):
Why don't we just put everyone in the United States on the federal government payroll and call it a day?
The Senate must vote again on upping the debt limit the same time they consider this jobs bill, which might make more spending less palatable. But given their history, I wouldn't put it past them.
