I think Geraghty is right:
Obama's attempt to counter McCain after the war hero cited the bracelet he wears by invoking his own bracelet looked halting and wholly contrived, and amplifies the suspicion among the undecideds that Obama is simply a performer, as sincere as any other daytime soap star:
The vast majority of serious reviews noted that McCain owned Obama on foreign policy issue after issue, and
Politico's Roger Simon delivers the most comprehensive assessment on the substance
, but Obama's cringe-inducing moment was one of the two or three that will define this debate as a significant McCain win. (Others were McCain's dismissive "You don't do that," while discussing Obama's threats against Pakistan and Obama's incoherent North Korean ramble.)
