Today the American Conservative Union released its rankings of the most conservative and most liberal members of the Senate and House of Representatives. The ACU does this every year in hopes of informing grassroots organizations and the public, in an unbiased manner, where elected officials fall on the ideological spectrum. The organization looks through a history of votes in the past year and analyzes them based on the litmus test of basic conservative beliefs.

The Senators who received a 100% rating when it came to defending liberty were Ron Johnson, Jon Kyl, Mike Lee, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Pat Toomey. Members of the House who received such a rating include Michelle Bachmann, Diane Black, Tim Scott, Jeff Flake, and many others.

Most important of the issues addressed by these legislators were taxes, wasteful government spending, cultural issues, and defense and foreign policy. Overall there were 8 Senators who ranked at 100 for defending liberty and 38 members of the House who received that same ranking.

For full results of the 2012 Ratings of Congress follow this link. It isn’t much of a surprise that many of these elected officials will also be found at this year’s CPAC, hosted by the ACU.
